Can I build Portal Experiences in the console version of Battlefield 6?

To use the builder in Portal, you must access it via browser. Though it is possible to access a browser on certain consoles, Battlefield Studios recommends using Portal to build experiences on a PC browser.

Experiences built with Portal can be enjoyed on every platform that Battlefield 6 is playable on: PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series S|X.

PORTAL FAQ

How is this iteration of Portal different from the one featured in Battlefield 2042?

This version of Portal offers a powerful new update: a spatial editor, powered by GODOT, giving creators the ability to spatially edit playspaces and move around certain existing elements on a map. Plus, new custom and AI scripting will allow you to create unique UI as well as direct combatant NPCs that have been inserted into your creation. This is a significant upgrade for Portal with more options than ever before to create truly unique experiences. We’re also making it easier than ever to discover these creations. Any experiences made with Portal will be available to be experienced as a Community Experience within the Community tab.

Will there be a server browser?

We know having a server browser is important to players and are happy to announce that a server browser will be easily accessible under our Community tab on the main menu.

What are examples of experiences that can be built within Portal?

We are giving players a more powerful and streamlined version of Portal, with brand new tools to create completely unique experiences. Naturally, there are tools to create interpretations of classic Battlefield experiences or shooter staples, like a redefined version of Conquest with a specialized ruleset, or even a horde mode. But players can even go beyond this and create something unexpected, like a top down 2D shooter or a platformer, which involves climbing structures. Here are a few of our favorite  examples:

  • Classic arcade-style puzzle experiences
  • A wave-based survival horde experience, complete with a Buy Screen where you can purchase weapons and items between rounds
  • A classic arena shooter
  • An experience where you compete with the other team to reach the top of a massive structure
  • A racing course with land or air vehicles

Can you earn progression via Portal experiences?

Yes. No matter what mode you play, you will earn progression experience. Every Portal Experience will communicate the available progression rewards in its menu description. These are broken up in the following types of experiences:

  • Verified Community Experiences will grant players the same categories of EXP they’d earn playing any of Battlefield 6’s official modes, including progression for challenges, badges, and accolades.
  • Custom Community Experiences, identified as those that push Battlefield into different genres and experiences that are distant from the core gameplay loop of the series. Will grant players who stay until the end of the match Time Played EXP.

Will Portal be regularly updated post launch?

Portal will receive updates post-launch that will make the tools available to players even more powerful, giving them more control over the experiences they’re creating. Moreover, experiences that resonate with the community will have the chance to become a featured experience.

FINDING COMMUNITY EXPERIENCES

How do I find an experience in the game?

If the player navigates through to the main menu, in the Community category they will find all experiences, including those they created themselves and those created by the community.

What is included in the Community category on the main menu?

The Community category offers players the options: browse and servers. Players can find the community experiences by searching with specific parameters, including searching for experiences via options such as name, mode and map. If players search for a specific experience, they can go to the experience page and find related servers, or start hosting the experience themselves.

SHARING/HOSTING COMMUNITY EXPERIENCES

How do you create an experience?

All community experiences can be created through our tool, Portal web builder.

How can a creator play/test their experience?

If a creator wants to test their experience, after saving it in the builder, they can go to the game community category in-game on the main menu. Selecting the “My Experiences” option  will take them to all experiences created, both unpublished and published.

What’s the difference between published and unpolished experiences?

Only published experiences can be viewed and played by other players. Creators can only edit, save, publish or unpublish through the Portal web builder.

What is the Community Experience code used for?

When a creator saves an experience on Portal web builder, they will see a code randomly generated. This code appears on the experience details page and can be used by others to find the experience. You can share this code online, to help others discover what you created.

How can a player host a community experience in game?

Players must head to the My Experiences area in the community category, where they either see the experiences they have created. Here a “host” button is available, taking players to the experience hosting screen where they can set name, description, etc.

How do Persistent Servers work?

A Persistent Server means your Server remains visible within the Server Browser even without active players. This will enable communities to stay together across their favorite servers, without needing to wait for the Server Owner to come online and activate the Server. To have access to Persistent Servers, creators should own the full game.

How can players host 100 players server?

When creating an experience, the total player count can be up to 100 players. If published, the players will need to own Battlefield Pro in order to host.
