Play the Newest EA Games on Next Generation Consoles

Starting next week on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, here are the great experiences you can expect through backwards compatibility

The video game industry is an exciting place, especially when new hardware launches. Each new console generation is met with huge anticipation. In just one week’s time, the next generation of consoles will be introduced to the world and Electronic Arts has some great games ready for you to play on the PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Headlined by EA SPORTS™, Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21 are set to deliver their most immersive and authentic experiences yet on Dec. 4th, and we’re looking forward to sharing more details with you on both those games later this month. In the meantime, if you want to play Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21 now, you can continue enjoying them on the current generation consoles. If you buy, or have already bought Madden NFL 21 or FIFA 21 for Xbox One and/or PlayStation4, you’ll receive the Xbox Series X|S and/or PlayStation 5 version of the game, or games, you’ve purchased for free* when the new games are released in December. You can take advantage of this offer up until the launch of Madden NFL 22 and FIFA 22 next year.

If you play now, your progress and content in Ultimate Team, The Yard and both Franchise modes in Madden NFL 21, and your progress and content in Ultimate Team and VOLTA FOOTBALL in FIFA 21 will transfer between generations**.

Through the power of backwards compatibility on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, you’ll also be able to play a bunch of EA games including Star Wars™: Squadrons, EA SPORTS UFC® 4, NHL® 21, Need for Speed™ Hot Pursuit Remastered, The Sims™ 4 and its add-on packs, as well as Apex Legends. Here’s a breakdown of the newest games and what you can expect next week when you do!

Star Wars™: Squadrons

With Star Wars™: Squadrons, the team at Motive has created two different options for an improved experience on the Xbox Series X|S which you can choose between: one for better visual quality and another for better performance. If you choose to fly across the galaxy with improved visual quality, the game will have a better lighting model where it will run up to 1440p at 60 FPS on the Xbox Series S and up to 2160p at 60 FPS on the Xbox Series X. If you choose performance, the game will run up to 1440p at 120 FPS and up to 2160p at 120 FPS respectively. Motive also added a Variable Refresh Rate on/off option for those of you with a TV that supports the feature. Star Wars: Squadrons on the PlayStation 5 will run with improved lighting, at the same resolution and framerate as on the PlayStation 4 Pro. And, no matter the platform - Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 - you can compete with other pilots through cross-platform play.

Apex Legends™

Respawn Entertainment is bringing Apex Legends to new platforms this year including the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. This award-winning battle royale game that took the world by great surprise last year just launched Season 7 - Ascension yesterday with its third map, Olympus, a new Legend named Horizon, the introduction of vehicles, and much more. Next-gen players can expect a performance boost up to 1440p, with more formal enhancements planned for next year. Apex Legends will also support crossplay across PC via Origin™ and Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

The Sims™ 4

Since its release in 2014, The Sims 4 continues to add fresh new content into the game, and the base game and all of its packs including Tiny Living, Eco Lifestyle, Nifty Knitting and Star Wars™: Journey to Batuu released this year will be available on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 with faster loading times and smoother framerates. The 10th expansion pack, Snowy Escape, is set to launch on Nov. 13th, when it will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, bringing a Japanese-inspired world that offers a variety of activities for Sims to enjoy, from unwinding in the mountain’s onsen bathhouse, meditating on mindful walks or testing their limits with exciting, and sometimes dangerous sports activities like skiing, snowboarding and rock climbing.

EA SPORTS UFC® 4, NHL® 21, Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21

This year’s line-up of EA SPORTS titles are here for you to play whether you’re a fan of MMA, hockey, football or soccer. All four games on the Xbox Series X will run as if on an Xbox One X and on the Xbox Series S, they’ll run like their on an Xbox One S. On PlayStation 5, the games will run like on the PlayStation 4 Pro, with all three new platforms delivering improvements to load times as well as better framerates. But, don’t forget, while you can play Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21 when the new consoles launch next week, you’ll get a free* upgrade to the next generation versions on Dec. 4th.

Need for Speed™ Hot Pursuit Remastered

Criterion’s award-winning game from 2010 reignites the pursuit tomorrow when it becomes available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
