And there’s more you can do.

Managing multiple accounts or setting up parental controls may seem complicated at first, but they’re actually simple measures you can take to make sure you’re secure online. And there’s more you can do.

The MRC’s Gamer Safety Alliance just launched the fourth annual Gamer Safety Week to help make sure everyone is protected on the internet, so we chatted with EA’s fraud prevention experts to round up some more easy tips for staying safe.

Think Harder
Avoid using easy-to-identify – and therefore easy-to-hack – passwords such as family names, birthdays, house numbers or phone numbers. Make sure to include upper and lower case letters as well as special characters and numbers.

Brainstorm Options
Having some passwords already made will make it easier when you need to fill in a field online and can’t think of anything clever.

Diversify
Never repeat your password. You don’t want to use the same passwords from different sites.

Change Them Frequently
Work out a schedule were you come back monthly or quarterly to change your passwords to keep yourself on track.

Consider Password Backup
You might want to build a spread sheet to hold your passwords. Consider using old fashioned pen and paper and keeping that list in a secure area at your desk or home.

Use Password Management Software
This timesaver lets you store multiple passwords in encrypted form so you don't have to remember them, and you can access all your passwords using one master password.
