Get ready, race fans: NASCAR action is now available in Real Racing 3!
Hit the track with officially licensed NASCAR Sprint Cup Cars, real drivers and the Federated Auto Parts 400 event at Richmond International Raceway.
We sat down with Luis Gigliotti, Senior Producer on Real Racing 3, and Blake Davidson, NASCAR’s Vice President of Licensing and Consumer Products, to learn more.
Q: What does it mean for NASCAR to be featured in RR3?
LG: NASCAR is the pinnacle of stock car racing and we want to offer the best of all racing genres to players. We want to bring motorsports fans all around the world together and help expose them to racing genres that they perhaps have heard of but don't know a lot about in a fun and engaging way.
Q: How have you worked to create an authentic NASCAR experience in Real Racing?
BD: Everyone involved wanted to create a game that would look and feel like NASCAR. From the selection of drivers, to the cars, to the track, Real Racing 3 really does a fantastic job in capturing what NASCAR’s all about. For example, Richmond International Raceway plays such a critical role in our sport’s season and with its iconic history, the track couldn’t be a better fit for gamers. Richmond is often called “The Perfect Track” because it combines the contact and excitement of short track racing with the speed and finesse of an intermediate-length track.
For all of these reasons it makes it a great place to start your NASCAR “quest” in the game. The game also replicates some of the real-world challenges drivers face to be competitive, like the slingshot pass.
Q: How many real world tracks or cars are available?
LG: With this update we’re focused on the Richmond International Raceway and 15 officially licensed cars, but we hope there is more to come from NASCAR in Real Racing 3.
Q: How is NASCAR featured in RR3?
LG: In the update that’s live today we’ve got official licensed NASCAR Sprint Cup Cars with team liveries and real world sponsors, real drivers and the Federated Auto Parts 400 event on the famous Richmond International Raceway.
Players can choose a race team and race for the chance to win their team’s “hero car” to keep forever in the game. We’re also teaching players new racing skills like drafting, slingshot passing and how to navigate around a pack.
Q: Can you race as real NASCAR drivers in RR3?
LG: You’ll be able to race alongside racing legends like Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart.
Q: What are some of the small details that NASCAR fans will notice in the update?
LG: We pulled out all the stops to make sure the experience is a true NASCAR experience. Our artists are incredible. They pick up the smallest details like the roof flaps on the cars that open when they spin out, and replicating the official liveries perfectly. Our coders and designers worked super hard to make sure that the feel of pack racing and drafting was on point for what a NASCAR race should feel like for the driver.
Q: What do you love about NASCAR?
BD: In addition to the great racing, there’s not a more passionate and loyal fan base in all of sports than the NASCAR fan. Their love for the sport and sense of community is a driving source of power. Plus, our drivers have such unique personalities that allow them to cultivate and connect with their own individual fan bases.
