What to know
At Electronic Arts, we believe in the positive power of play and to champion the positive players among us. Our community is made up of passionate players from around the world, and we want to recognize the individuals who are passionate about fair and inclusive play. This level of dedication to fair play and [positive] treatment of others deserves to be honored on a global scale.
This summer, the inaugural Electronic Arts Positive Player Award will acknowledge an Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) competitor who exemplifies the spirit of the award during the Year 3 Tournament.
Beginning July 2023, players and coaches of the ALGS will be invited to nominate esports competitors who consistently display outstanding sportspersonship by showing fair and generous treatment of others, and act as honorable opponents during the tournament.
Rachel Franklin, SVP, Positive Play, commented: “Game communities should be safe, fair, and welcoming for everyone, even when there is intense competition. Until now, the games industry has been keeping communities safe by focusing on a small number of disruptive players - finding them, keeping the rules clear, and taking swift action to suspend or ban them when we need to. At EA, we want to flip the focus to players who embody the values of positive play, and the Positive Player Award is a great new way to do that. We’re excited to acknowledge and celebrate the Apex Legends players who go above and beyond to help keep our community welcome, safe, and fun. These players inspire us, and we can’t wait to celebrate the winners.”
Know any players who make every competition they are in a positive experience for all? Coaches and players are invited to nominate their choice for the Positive Player Award through ALGS Positive Player Award nominations form.
After the nomination period closes on July 21, a panel of inclusive play and esports representatives from Apex Legends and Electronic Arts will review the eligible individuals, selecting between three and ten finalists. Final nominees will be announced on August 10 and voting will be open to the public through August 28. The winner will be revealed during this year’s ALGS Championships.
We appreciate all of our players and cannot wait to honor members of our ALGS community later this summer. Up next on the ALGS Year 3 tournament circuit is the Split 2 Playoffs - be sure to tune in July 13-16.
