Alexandra Rusina
Commanding a Fleet of Game Servers in a Galaxy Far Far Away….
EA Org: PIE- Game Server Hosting
Presentation: Computer Systems Engineering
Session Time & Date: Wednesday September 29, 2021 / 9:30am-10:00am PST

What does it take to ship a multiplayer game? It’s not just about gameplay, or storytelling, or top-notch graphics. Jingwen Liang
Building Placement Generation Using Conditional Generative Latent Optimization
EA Org: PIE- Game Server Hosting
Presentation: Artificial Intelligence
Session Time & Date: On Demand Studio

Generating realistic urban environments by placing buildings on maps is a challenging problem. Unlike the existing procedural methods, we proposed a deep generative model that can easily generate buildings on a given map with specific styles just by providing examples. Our method outperforms state-of-the-art methods and allows users to iterate over their urban layout designs much faster.

About Jingwen: Jingwen Liang joined Electronic Arts as an AI Scientist in April 2020. She works within EA Digital Platform’s org on the Data & AI team, generating 3D content using Machine Learning methods. Her research interests focus on optimization, image processing and computer vision especially in deep generative models.

Serena Wang
YodaPlay: Video Based In-Game Strategy Booster
EA Org: EADP Data & AI
Presentation: Artificial Intelligence
Session Time & Date: On Demand Studio

EA produces competitive games, such as sports games and racing games. Some provide users strategic recommendations when playing. However, most strategy patterns are predefined and tightly combined with games. YodaPlay can extract strategies directly from videos, livestream videos, and even real world matches.  These self-defined strategies can be imported into users' game accounts and recommended live when playing.

About Serena: In love with both Computer Science and Gaming, Serena Wang joined Electronic Arts in May 2019 as a Software Engineer within EA Digital Platform’s org on the Data & AI team. Now, she focuses on developing high-performance data platforms and services to support complex data pipelines and real-time data processing. Working with cutting-edge software such as Kubernetes, Airflow and Presto,Serena actively researches novel solutions to various production situations.

Prior to joining EA, Serena was a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at UMass Boston. Her research covered Big Data Processing Platforms, Augmented Reality and Computer Vision used in Autonomous Vehicles. During that time her first daughter was born.  Her experience as a working parent has inspired her to speak in public, sharing her research and stories to attract more women into computer technologies.
