Hitting The Track With Your Friends

F1® 2021’s Online Multiplayer

F1 2021 Header

Whether you’re new to the Formula 1® games’ multiplayer scene or a hardened league racer, F1® 2021 has plenty of online modes for you to battle against your friends, outside of two-player career. Those of you who’ve ventured into previous F1® multiplayer will find we’ve switched things around a bit, but never fear, your guide to online is here.

F1® 2021’s multiplayer is cross-gen, meaning that if you’re playing on Xbox Series X, you can also compete with a friend on an Xbox One. The same applies for PlayStation® players.

Ranked

Playing in Ranked multiplayer, you’ll be pitted against people of a similar skill level.  Here, you’ll need to keep a watchful eye over your Skill Rating, which is the most important part of this mode. Finish higher than someone else with a better score than you, and you’ll find yourself flying up the ranks.

We’ve simplified the menus here so that you can get into a game as quickly as possible. There are two options for you to check out: ‘Short’, a five-lap race with one-shot qualifying, and ‘Standard’, a 25% race, with a one-shot qualifying.

Social Play

Social play is where you can play F1® 2021 Unranked, meaning that you can race in these lobbies without affecting your Skill Rating. If you’re new to the game, ‘Beginner Friendly’ is a good place to start. It eases you gently into the world of F1® 2021’s multiplayer, with one-shot qualifying, five-lap races and collisions off. If you’re after more of a challenge, ‘Experienced Drivers’ is where you’ll want to be, with one-shot qualifying, 25% races and the corner-cutting rules set to ‘Strict’. Not sure exactly what kind of race you want? Select ‘Browse’ to view the lobby list or create your own.

We’ve also simplified the lobby screen here; you can see exactly which cars, circuit, and settings are being used, so you can get into a game quicker!

Leagues

Leagues are extremely customisable and configurable, allowing you to create the experience you want. If you’re looking for a more intense multiplayer challenge with a group of people, a league might just be the thing you’re looking for.

There are two types of league – ‘scheduled’ or ‘on-demand’. If you’re playing with strangers, a ‘scheduled’ league might be the better option, as events starts when you’ve scheduled them, even if the league owner doesn’t turn up. ‘On-demand’ offers a lot more flexibility, and races can be started whenever it’s convenient for you.

Local Two-Player Split-Screen

If you want to race someone on your couch instead of online, hit up two-player split-screen. Choose your car category, circuit, whose car you’ll be taking out, weekend structure, assists and more. Then all you need to do is get on the grid and race your rival!
