Whether you're a student looking to launch your career in gaming, or simply curious about the opportunities EA Romania offers, this piece is your ultimate guide.
So, buckle up and get ready to explore the exciting journey that could potentially shape your future in the gaming industry. Let's dive right in!
1. What types of roles does EA Romania offer through the internship program?
Creating a game is a complex process. Our internship roles focus on various areas of game development expertise, from more technical software engineering, cyber security, and Dev Ops roles to project management, analytics, or creative roles such as producer and game design. Considering this diversity of roles, our program fits various backgrounds and career aspirations.
2. What requirements/ qualifications/ skills must I have for an internship at EA Romania?
The must-have requirement for all our internships is enrollment in either a Bachelor’s or master’s program at the time of the application. We also highly value curiosity for innovation, passion for your field of study, a self-learner attitude, and a genuine interest in learning more!
Although we don’t expect you to have professional skills and knowledge given the early stage of your career, we’ve noticed that students who deeply understand their university curriculum have also performed better in the assessment process.
Also, most of our internship roles require a hybrid presence in the office, so that’s something to factor in when you apply.
3. How, where, and when can I apply for an internship role?
You can visit our global career site at ea.com/careers or our local portal getinthegame.ro. Our roles are also published on our global LinkedIn account and announced on the local company's Facebook page.
You can’t possibly miss them; just look out for our announcements at the beginning of February each year! Also, as a general note, follow us on social media to keep in touch and discover what’s new in our world!
4. What does the recruitment process look like for an internship role? Are there any tests? Or assessments?
The recruitment process discovers your potential fit with the role and ensures you have all the details you need to make an informed decision. As in all our selection processes, it is always a two-way approach. Therefore, we have tests and assessments that dive deep into your skills. But also an exploratory conversation with the recruiter setting the stage and the one with the hiring manager/ buddy, revealing all the ins and outs of the adventure you are about to embark on. A successful process ends with a final meeting where the recruiter will present you with the financial offer associated with the internship. Because, yes, at EA, internships are paid!
5. When does the internship start, and what is the duration?
The internship program starts in July and lasts for four months, until the end of October. Join us, and we are sure it will be the summer experience of your life!
6. How many hours a week are interns expected to work?
The internship is full-time, with a 40-hour-per-week standard schedule. However, we know that you need to get back to university in October, and we don’t want this experience to prevent you from prioritizing your studies. If needed, we can accommodate a part-time schedule (20 hours/ week).
7. Are the internships paid or unpaid? Do you get any perks apart from the salary?
All our internships are paid, and you will also get private medical & life insurance besides the salary itself. And because our work is play, you will get free EA games of your choice. Equally important, you can enjoy our office perks like any other employee!
8. Will the internship equivalate to the official practice I must complete for my faculty?
The internship can also be equivalent to your official practice, and if you need your papers to be filled in at the office or online, we can make sure to have this covered for you.
9. What type of work will interns be expected to do?
The type of work will differ depending on the role that you are interested in. Still, all internship roles focus on learning and developing your skills. For example, as an intern in software engineering, you can expect to be involved in bug fixing or working with our development team to support them in building internal tools. As for the non-technical roles, you will work closely with a senior producer, game designer, or project manager to understand the responsibilities and support the team with various tasks, from quality assessments of features in development to tracking project progress.
10. Can you describe a typical day for an intern at EA Romania?
We have different teams at EA, and they choose their own ways to structure their days. Generally, in the development teams, the day starts with a daily stand-up, where we discuss project progress, and everyone can share concerns or blockers. Then, depending on your role, you might be involved in brainstorming sessions or other team meetings. Each day poses different challenges, and on top of that, we have a lot of training and social gatherings specially crafted for our interns.
11. What sort of projects have previous interns worked on?
Our interns are fully embedded in our EA projects, and thus, they get to live the behind-the-scenes experience. Imagine contributing to a game that has yet to ship, working with cutting-edge technologies under the Frostbite engine, or looking into actual player behavior statistics with our analytics team. Are you excited yet?
12. What is the company culture like at EA Romania?
EA Romania’s company culture is defined by our group of talented professionals, bound by a shared vision for excellence and passion to develop the best video games in the world. You can expect to be exposed to an international environment, working alongside experienced professionals from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries. We are part of an environment where you can excel and foster relationships in which we constantly engage, listen, respond, and partner to create the best experiences for our millions of players worldwide.
13. Will there be opportunities for full-time employment after the internship?
Yes! Our internship program not only aims to allow you to gain experience with us, but it also aims to build career opportunities for you. EA Romania consists of many business units and game development teams, all of which are always on the lookout for talented people like you. Or, if you are early in your studies, you can always return next summer for another internship experience.
14. What departments or areas of the company can interns potentially work in?
After the internship program, you can express your interest in continuing to work with us. From our experience, most of our interns wish to continue to partner with their internship team but join as an employee in departments such as Software Development, Quality Verification, Analytics, Cyber Security, Production/ Game Design, and many more.
15. How can this internship benefit my future career?
Internships can provide multiple benefits. Not only are you getting the opportunity to gain experience within a field or domain that interests you, but you are also gaining the experience of working within a corporate environment. What you learn through your internship will be invaluable as you enter your professional career post-graduation.
