• 2022: A Year Powered by Play A look back at how players enjoyed our games in 2022.

As 2022 comes to a close, we reflect on another exciting year powered by play – and the impact of our more than 600 million active players and fans around the globe.

2022: Year in Gaming shines a light on how our communities played the EA games they love most. Not only where players spent their time but the content generated, achievements unlocked, leaderboards dominated, teams and characters that resonated, and connections forged.

New players all over the world

The Electronic Arts community continued to grow in 2022 as we welcomed millions of new players from around the world! Our new players came from Asia & Pacific (27.2%), followed by Europe (24.9%), South & Latin America (23.5%) and North America (12.8%)

    Competition ruled

For a second consecutive year, EA SPORTS™ FIFA  and Apex Legends™ are EA’s Most Popular Franchises of the Year. And in anticipation of World Cup 2022™, it’s no surprise that EA SPORTS ™ FIFA Mobile, played in over 200 Nations, is EA’s Most Popular Mobile Franchise of the Year.

Whether it was on the pitch in EA SPORTS™ FIFA where players scored over 32 billion goals this year, in Apex Legends where “GG” or “good game” was used in-game over 9 million times in September alone, or on a world-famous circuit where over 218 million races were held in EA SPORTS™ F1® this year– friendly competition remained a universal player language in 2022.

    Mobile play

As EA continues delivering engaging, interactive entertainment and live services to reach more players on more platforms around the world – we welcome insights from some of the newest additions to the EA portfolio. From the fairways of Golf Clash™, where players hit over 5.7 million hole-in-ones, to the stylish 3D spaces of Design Home™, where over 380 million rooms were designed – players loved playing anytime, anywhere.

    Even more reasons to woohoo

The Sims™ franchise made some major announcements this year that will bring more players into The Sims universe than ever before; taking The Sims 4 base game free to download, confirming exciting content updates into the foreseeable future, and revealing that the next generation of The Sims™ is currently in development with Project Rene. In 2022, Simmers spent 1.4 billion hours in The Sims 4 creating 18.5% more Sims characters than in 2021. This year, in partnership with The It Gets Better Project and GLAAD, The Sims 4 introduced customizable pronouns providing a safe and inclusive environment for players.

Whether it was on the gridiron of Madden NFL, where September 5th was the highest played day of the year (just in time for the 2022 NFL season kickoff), or on the roads of Kings Canyon, where Bloodhound unlocked the most perks of any Legend on mobile – we continue to celebrate the positive power of connecting through play.
