Darren Cross reveals how to earn coins quickly in FIFA 11 Ultimate Team.

Last week we looked at the effects of chemistry in FUT11, and how you can build a very strong team with an extremely high chemistry stat for less than 7000 coins.

But what if you want to do the same but don’t have the cash? Or maybe you’ve got your eye on a top player, but don’t have anything like the amount of coins needed to sign him?

Easy… you play the trading market, and in this week’s blog I’m going to tell you how to do it.

My first, and most important, tip for making coins fast is to do your research BEFORE you buy or sell any cards. For example, let’s say you have Liverpool striker David N’Gog in your squad and you don’t need him. Rather than discard him for 300 coins, the first thing you should do is a quick search to see the average price N’Gog is selling for. Do this by going to ‘Trading’, then ‘Search’ then by selecting Gold, French Liverpool STs in the search criteria and N’Gog will pop up.

Now flick through the first few screens and keep an eye out for any recurring prices, paying special attention to the lowest price. When I did this search N’Gog’s lowest price was 500, and his highest 5000, so I set my price just above the lowest at 600. He sold within a few minutes, and I’d made double what I would have had I just discarded him.

Simple, but so many players make the mistake of inventing a price instead of checking out what others are selling the same card for, then wonder why no-one is buying. I imagine the guy trying to sell N’Gog for 5000 is going to be waiting a fair bit longer than a few minutes.

The same tip applies to buying. Before you spend any of those precious coins on a player, take a few extra minutes to move through the pages and find the lowest possible price. Even if you only save 100 coins on what you would have paid, that IS going to help you make coins quicker in the near future, as you’ll see in a minute.

Right, what now? Well you need to go out and buy some players who you know you can sell quickly for a tidy profit, and there are a few things you should think about here.

The majority of players search for Gold cards, so they’re the ones you’re most likely to be able to buy and sell in the least amount of time, due to the amount of people trading Golds, so start your search there.

With Gold selected, my next move is to change the League to Barclays PL and this is for a very good reason. The Premier League is the most popular league in the world by far, and FUT players are much more likely to buy cards of players they know and like than an unknown Gold player from another league. In fact, not only are FUT gaffers more likely to buy Prem players, they’re also more likely to pay a little more than they should for a certain card if it happens to be a player they’re a fan of, or one that’s been in excellent recent form in real life.

So now we’re looking for Gold level Prem players, what next? The other factor that gives cards an extra selling point is Pace. All FIFA players like to have Pace in their team so, again, these are the cards that sell the quickest and consequently the ones you stand the best chance of making a profit from.

Now we know what we’re looking for we can identify some players and start buying. This is where we come back to research again, because now you need to find Gold level Prem players with pace who are up for sale BELOW the average price they’re going for.

I know it sounds like a lot of work, but it really does only take a minute to identify a card you want to buy, then see what everyone else is paying before snapping it up for a bargain.

Once you win the card, immediately send it to your Trade Pile and put it on the market as a Buy Now for slightly ABOVE what you just paid, but not too much. So, if you signed a player for 400, put him on for 600.

If you’ve picked a desirable player and priced him sensibly, you WILL sell him, because most managers won’t mind paying the extra 100 or 200 coins to get the player immediately as opposed to taking their chances in a bidding war.

So now you’ve made 200 coins. Not a huge amount admittedly, but do this for five players and you’re 1000 coins up on your starting amount.

With 1000 coins you’ll be able to sign a player for all of your cash and sell him for 1500 if you follow the tips above – giving you 500 coins profit.

Repeat this a few times and, after half an hour or so of trading, you should be looking at a tidy profit and have a decent amount of coins in the bank. This is where you can really begin to make good profits, because the more expensive the player is, the higher his skills and popularity will be, which makes him even more desirable to managers.

Expensive, desirable cards = more profit for you.

Before too long, you’ll be buying cards for 10,000 each and selling them for 15,000 minutes later, as long as you stick to identifying wanted players and researching the prices before you buy or sell.

And that’s really it, simple eh?

The real bonus of doing your research is that, when you eventually sign a player for a big fee that you want to use in your team, there’s no risk involved; if you find that you don’t like using the player then stick him back on the market for more coins than you paid. You know you’ll make more than you forked out, because you’ve done your research in the first place.

Try it out, and don’t forget you can now trade via your PC or Mac when you’re away from your console. It’s like Ebay for FIFA!

Have a great Christmas and New Year.
Darren.
