Headquarters of the famed London Shootfighters team, HOOKS gym is a world-class mixed martial arts training facility in London, England, and is home to the some of the country’s best fighters.
Top pros including Alex Reid, John Hathaway, James Zikic, Marius Zaromskis and many more go head-to-head every day during sparring as they prepare for their upcoming battles in the cages and rings of the world’s top fight promotions. But September 7th 2010 saw some of their fiercest matches yet – without a single punch being thrown!
EA SPORTS took over the West London mega-gym to announce the arrival of EA SPORTS MMA.
Due on October 22nd, EA SPORTS MMA is a ground-breaking mixed martial arts video game that will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Among the first people in the country to play the game were BAMMA fighters Alex Reid, BAMMA featherweight champion Mark Adams and 145lb contender Ash Grimshaw.
Reid, who challenges Tom Watson for the BAMMA middleweight title in Birmingham on September 25th, enjoyed a few rounds of action against BAMMA matchmaker and producer Jude Samuel. “It’s amazing,” the kickboxer said of the game. “The graphics are so realistic.”
Playing against each other in two-player mode, they discovered that the fighters on the screen could replicate the exact moves fans can expect to see in action on BAMMA 4 on September 25th. Crunching high kicks, bone-jarring slams and slick submissions were the order of the day, while the hyper-realistic graphics and smooth gameplay drew much admiration from onlookers.
The fighters got to sample the game one month ahead of it’s scheduled October release. Grimshaw (7-6-1), an avid gamer, could be found playing against members of the press, winning a number of matches by KO – just like in real life!
Alex Reid fights Tom Watson on BAMMA 4, September 25th 2010 at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. Tickets are available at www.ticketfactory.co.uk. For more information on the event and current news go to www.bamma.com.
