This week, Wayne Rooney tells Darren Cross which players would make it into his ultimate FIFA 11 team…

Hi everyone and welcome to this week’s Backpage, which will hopefully be better than usual as you haven’t just got me sharing my thoughts and tips on FIFA 11! Nope, this week’s blog should be far more interesting as Man. United and England star Wayne Rooney reveals which players would make it into his dream FIFA 11 line-up and why.

I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with Wayne a few times over the years, so I can say from personal experience that he is genuinely just as passionate about playing FIFA as you and me, and actually spends quite a chunk of his free time taking on players from all over the world – just like we do.

He’s more than a little handy at the game too. I played against him last year and, although I came away with a win, I have to hold my hands up and say I was incredibly fortunate… he pretty much dominated the game from start to finish.

So I think revealing his Dream Team for us all is that little bit more interesting, not just because he’s a huge celebrity, but because he really does know what he’s talking about – as you’ll see when you check out his starting eleven!

Take a look…

Okay Wayne, let’s start in goal. Which keeper are you going for?
Pepe Reina’s very good in FIFA. Reina is quick off his line and his kicking is quite accurate. He’s obviously a great keeper in real life and, in the game, he’s very difficult to beat when I play against Liverpool.

How about right-back?
I’d probably pick Micah Richards for the right-back position. When I play the game in Career Mode I always sign him because he’s quick, strong and he can also play centre-half.

From there we’ll go straight across to left-back…
I’d have Ashley Cole at left-back. He’s good defensively and he’s also very good at attacking – his FIFA 11 player is really similar to what he’s like in real life.

How about your two centre-halves?
I’d choose Nemanja Vidic and Carles Puyol at centre-back. These two aren’t the quickest centre-halves in the game, but they’re good in the air. They’re also very strong and really good at tackling. I try to get my defenders to the strikers very early.

Okay, so how about your midfield?
I think the midfield is quite easy to pick – it’s Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Ronaldo. Messi is so sharp on the game and he can turn really quickly, plus he’s a very good finisher. Xavi’s great at getting the ball and passing it to Messi. Iniesta is quick, skillful and also a good finisher. Ronaldo is very quick and powerful, and he’s great at free-kicks.

Not bad! Let’s put you in there up front. Who would you choose to play alongside you in the game?
Carlos Tevez. The attributes that make him good in FIFA are that he’s strong – so he holds the ball up really well – and he’s quick. In the game I’ve played with us up front and we worked well together!

Now for your character. What, if anything, is different between you and the version of you in the game – or do you think it’s pretty bang on?
The in-game version of me is certainly very similar. Obviously in terms of looks it’s virtually the same. In the game I think I’ve got a powerful shot and I’m quick and strong, so that’s quite similar.

If you could edit anything about yourself in the game, what would it be? What could you improve on?
Probably the haircut! They could give me a fringe!

Thankyou Wayne
Thankyou.

Not a bad line-up eh? See you next week,

Darren
