We’ve just had Game Week 7 of the Barclays Premier League and our EA SPORTS Team of the Week is here courtesy of the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index. Check out the team below and some of the top stats from the weekend:
Bolton vs. Chelsea: Chelsea continue to quietly go about their business as they thrashed Bolton 5-1 at the Reebok stadium. Blues midfielder Frank Lampard, who has had his doubters of late, was back to his best as he grabbed a well-deserved hatrick. During the game Lampard managed to cover an impressive 7.66 miles. Raul Meireles (8.14 miles) was the only Chelsea player to cover more distance than Lampard during the match and according to the EA Sports Player Performance Index the lively Meireles covered more distance than any other Barclays Premier League player during game week 7.
Man Utd vs. Norwich City: Norwich City put in a brave display against the champions and were unlucky not to have come away with something from the game after their 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford. At times Norwich looked superb on the attack playing with fluidity and speed and this is backed up by the EA Sports player performance index which shows that their players had the highest average speed during the 90 minutes than any other Barclays Premier League team in game week 7 (3.4 mph).
Fulham vs. QPR: Fulham had only managed 4 goals in 6 games before the start game week 7 but they ran riot against QPR putting 6 goals past the Hoops on a day that also saw Fulham’s Andrew Johnson score his first ever hatrick in the Barclays Premier League. According to The EA Sports Player Performance Index Johnson covered the least distance (5 miles) out of any of Fulham’s outfield starting XI. This may suggest that the live wire striker uses his movements in short; sharp bursts rather than over any long distance.
Everton vs. Liverpool: According to the EA Sports player performance Index Everton’s Marouane Fellaini covered 7.51 miles in the game, the highest distance travelled by any player during the Derby and the 2nd week in a row in which he has been Everton’s top performer when it comes to covering ground during 90 minutes.
Tottenham vs. Arsenal: Spurs secured a superb 2-1 victory against their North London rivals during game week 7. The EA Sports player performance Index shows that out of Tottenham’s outfield starting XI, goal scorer Rafael Van Der Vaart (4.88 miles) and Strike partner Emmanuel Adebayor (5.54 miles) covered the least distance in the game. This may suggest that although Tottenham won the game that for large parts the play was either in the middle 3rd or Tottenham’s defensive 3rd of the pitch meaning both strikers weren’t able to get as involved as they would have liked.
Swansea City vs. Stoke City: Swansea recorded their 2nd home win in succession with a 2-0 victory over Stoke in game week 7. Interestingly the EA Sports player performance index shows that they covered the least amount of distance as a team during game week 7 with Stoke the 2nd least (65.51 miles).
