Game week 16 of the Barclays Premier League and once again we were treated to a fantastic spectacle of entertainment.
The EA SPORTS EPL Star Line Up is in, check it out below. Liverpool's impressive away victory and clean sheet against Villa means they contribute 3 or the back 4 in the team of the week.
Bryan Ruiz's classy finish against Bolton sees him up front ably supported by Craig Bellamy.
And David Silva's masterful display in midfield for City's 1-0 win over Arsenal ensures his place.
With thanks to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, here are the interesting facts from the weekend.
QPR vs. Man United
• Manchester United continued to keep up the pressure on league leaders Man City with a convincing 2-0 victory at QPR. United midfielder Michael Carrick scored his 1st goal of the season and The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows that he covered 5.78 miles of ground during the game; this was more than any other Manchester United player covered in game week 16.
Manchester City vs. Arsenal
• Manchester City responded to their defeat at Chelsea with a slim 1-0 victory against Arsenal in what was a very entertaining and open football match at The Etihad Stadium. The EA SPORTS Player performance Index suggests that both teams’ central midfielders were closely matched as Arsenal’s midfield duo of Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta covered a combined distance of 13.9 miles compared to Gareth Barry and goal scorer David Silva of City who managed 13.12 miles.
Wigan vs. Chelsea
• Jordi Gomez's late equalizer ensured Wigan pulled off the shock of game week 16 with a fantastic 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea. Robert Martinez’s side are always prepared to try and play good attacking football and according to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index the Wigan team averaged a speed of 2.77 mph during the 90 minutes, only Liverpool (2.84mph) recorded a higher average speed during game week 16.
• Surprisingly The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index tells us that Chelsea covered the least distance as a team than any other Premier League side during game week 16 with 57.28 miles.
Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
• Craig Bellamy inspired Liverpool to their fifth away league win of the season by scoring one goal and creating another in the space of four minutes to give his team a convincing 2-0 victory at Villa Park. According to The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index Aston Villa (68.13 miles) completed more distance as a team during game week 16 than any other Premier League team with Liverpool in 2nd (67.4 miles), this suggests that this game was an open one played with a lot of energy from both sets of players.
• Spurs continued to keep pace with both Manchester clubs with a battling 1-0 victory over Sunderland which keeps them in 3rd place. Scott Parker once again showed his importance to the Spur’s team with a hard working and energetic display as The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index shows he covered more distance than any other player on the pitch during the game (6.54 miles) and also had the highest average speed during the game (4.55mph).
Wolves vs. Stoke City
• Stoke secured a 4th Premier League win on the bounce with a 2-1 victory against Wolves. This was the first time in 30 years that Stoke had won 4 top flight matches in a row. Potters Winger Matthew Etherington recorded a top speed of 23.16mph during the game. This was the highest top speed reached by a Premier League played during game week 16
