Mack's penultimate session of the grind finds him managing his Mack Ink skate team.

Hey everyone and welcome back to the penultimate session of the Grind. That’s right I’m only here for two more weeks. This doesn’t mean I won’t be playing Skate 3 anymore, far from it in fact. I plan on playing this game for some time to come.

This week I’ve been moving house and building furniture, which has left me without two things, time to skateboarding and no internet connection. Shock horror I know. I’ve still managed to keep sane by managing my Mack Ink team on skate.ea.com via using the computer at work. Naughty I know but working in the skate shop that is Snow and Skate City I can say its work related.

The last time I went this long without X Box live it hadn’t been invented yet. But before the big move I did manage to get onto some games of S.K.A.T.E. on line.

Usually with the previous Skate games I wouldn’t spend a lot of my time competing on line, but instead just free skate and complete the career mode. This was usually because the way I like to play skate is to skate with a realistic feel and also, I suck at games of skate. But as with all things it just takes practice and knowing the best way to make the location of the game work best for your style.

I like the rules of the way skate is done on the game. If everyone manages to copy the trick a new trick setter is chosen and then moves on. Whenever I have played real games of skate the person setting the trick stays until he bails. Now at the skate park for my warm up games of skate I play by ‘Skate 3’ rules. This makes the trick setter try harder and progress in their own tricks.

As for Skate 3 itself the best tips I can give are more like little guides, a push in the right direction as it were. Firstly, to use that right analog stick to bust out a shifty. That should give you that little extra squeeze from the rotation and get round to that full 360. Second, like I said, be creative with your trick, if everyone can copy you it’s the end of your turn, but saying that sometimes easier tricks can put other players off balance so if you’re feeling lucky,, give it a shot. Thirdly, practice every trick and get that consistency that you’ll need to defend getting those letters. Try getting your tricks on lock for when it comes to copying tricks.

If a trick comes up that you feel may give you trouble, have a practice flip before you get to the allocated trick area, just don’t spend too long and get run out by the timer.

Make sure you back next week for the last episode of the grind with Mack as I give my latest tips on Skate 3 and let you all know what’s also happing in the real skate world.

And as always, keep skating!
