2012-02-08
Tiger Legacy Challenge lets you relive Tiger's most memorable golf accomplishments as he rises from a child prodigy to a golfing legend in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13.
Hello everyone, this is Christian Brandt, designer for Tiger Legacy Challenge. Many people might not know or just forget how impressive Tiger Woods' golfing career has been and we created the all-new Tiger Legacy Challenge mode to celebrate his illustrious golfing history.
He has won countless Junior and Amateur events including three U.S. Amateur Championships in a row, 71 PGA TOUR events, and 14 major championships. He is just four major wins back from the great Jack Nicklaus, and through Tiger Legacy Challenge, we give you the chance to re-write history.
Tiger Legacy Challenge will let you relive first-hand Tiger Woods' most memorable golf accomplishments as he rises from a child prodigy to a golfing legend; starting from Tiger's appearance on the Mike Douglas Show when he was just two years old. Your challenge throughout the mode is to play through Tiger's historic career and then help him reach his ultimate goal of breaking Jack Nicklaus' fabled major championship record.
Tiger's Background
We sat down with Tiger Woods to learn about how he got his start in golf, career goals, memorable events that he played in, and what's next on his list in order to help us build this feature. It all began when Tiger would watch his father hit golf balls into a homemade net as a child. Around nine months old, Tiger picked up a golf club for the first time and started to learn to swing the club. In 1984, Tiger began his legendary junior career by winning the 9-10 year old division at the age of eight. He continued dominating on the course and won at each age bracket of the Junior World Golf Championships with a total of six victories. In 1994, Woods became the youngest ever winner of the U.S. Amateur Championship and then enrolled at Stanford University and was named 1995 Pac-10 Player of Year and won the NCAA Individual Golf Championship as a sophomore before turning pro. In his rookie season, he won two events and won his first major championship by 12 strokes and became the youngest golfer to win the 1997 Masters Tournament. Only 42 weeks into his professional career, Woods climbed to the number 1 spot in the World Golf Rankings. Now Tiger is sitting at 14 major championship victories, just four back from tying Jack's record. In Tiger Legacy Challenge, you'll be playing through the events listed above and more on your road to the record books.
Feature Breakdown
Tiger Legacy Mode is setup into 10 different eras of his golfing career. Here's just a taste of some events that you will encounter.
Toddler Years
The first era occurs in the late 70's and includes events from Tiger's childhood when he first learned how to play golf. You'll start off at the Mike Douglas Show where Tiger sunk his famous putt on national TV. We also recreated his childhood backyard where you'll learn how to dig the ball out of sand in his sandbox with the all new strike meter and much more.
Early Years
This era takes place between 1983 and 1986 between the ages of 7-10. You'll participate in some of Tiger's first golf tournaments including the Junior World Championship.
Junior Years
Tiger's junior golf career takes place between 1988 and 1991 from the ages of 12-15. To build mental toughness while practicing, Tiger's father would try and distract him during his backswing, which we have included in this challenge.
Amateur Years
Tiger played amateur golf between 1994 and 1996. This section includes accomplishments during Tiger's amateur golf career such as the U.S. Amateur Championship, his first trip to Augusta National Golf Club, and College Invitationals.
Rookie Years
The Rookie era includes events during Tiger's first two years on the PGA TOUR including his first major win at the Masters in 1997, first President's Cup, hitting a hole in one at TPC Scottsdale's famous hole 16, and many more.
Tiger Slam
The Tiger Slam era includes the four majors that Tiger won in a row. The four tournaments took place at Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, Valhalla, and Augusta National Golf Club. It also includes a challenge to match Tiger's snake putt at the 2001 Players Championship on the 17th at TPC Sawgrass.
Pro Years
The Professional years include many accomplishments between 2002 and 2008 such as various major wins, famous shots, and winning the inaugural FedEx Cup title.
