Player Ratings Update: Week 17
See how huge performances from stars like Deshaun Watson and Nick Chubb have affected their Madden ratings.
Madden NFL 21

Week 17 in the NFL is always a little wonky. Some players are rested, some teams are playing for a playoff berth, and some guys are just trying to prove themselves worthy of a job for the following season. A couple performances stand out from Week 17 in particular: Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor plowed ahead with 250-yard rushing outings, notching two touchdowns apiece. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers each threw four touchdown passes, and Kirk Cousins racked up over 400 pass yards with three TDs of his own. And on the receiving front, Antonio Brown made a splash for Tampa Bay with 138 yards and two scores, while Marvin Jones racked up 180 yards and two scores for Detroit.
Of course epic runs, crazy catches, and incredible plays abounded all over the league. And the Madden Ratings Adjustor team is working hard to tweak, refine, and polish ratings across the league based on real-world performances. Let’s take a look and see who’s up in the ranks and who’s down. Access the full Madden NFL 21 Player Ratings Database HERE.
Week 17: Who’s Up
Deshaun Watson | QB | Houston Texans
The Texans only won four games all season, yet Deshaun Watson had a career year in yards, 4,823, and TDs, 33. He finished Week 17 strong with 365 pass yards and three touchdowns, but his team lost again in heartbreaking fashion to the playoff-bound Titans. The Madden Ratings Adjustor team is giving Watson his due though, bumping up his OVR two full points, so he’ll finish the year with a 90 OVR.
Nick Chubb | RB | Cleveland Browns
A literal touchdown-machine, Nick Chubb found the end zone again (on a 47-yard run) in Week 17, and rushed for 108 yards on 14 attempts against the Steelers. Chubb scored in all but three games he played in this season, and finished the year with a six-game TD streak. His value in the Browns offense is undeniable, and the Madden Ratings Adjustor team is rewarding him handsomely for his consistent production this year, bumping his Overall Rating up one point to a 95 OVR ahead of the postseason.
Josh Allen | QB | Buffalo Bills
Another strong finish for a young QB who had an outstanding regular season, Josh Allen posted three touchdowns, one pick, and 224 pass yards against Miami in Week 17 … and that was all in the first half. Allen was rested in the second half on account of a massive blowout (Buffalo won 56-26). On the season, Allen posted 45 touchdowns and 4,544 passing yards, adding eight rushing touchdowns for good measure. The Madden Ratings Adjustor team is rewarding Allen with a one-point bump to his Overall Rating, so he’ll close the regular season at an 88 OVR, up a full 11 points from his 77 OVR at launch.
Week 17: Who’s Down
Todd Gurley | RB | Atlanta Falcons
The last time Todd Gurley eclipsed 20 yards rushing in a game was all the way back in Week 11 when he had 26. He’s had an objectively awful end to the year, and finished Week 17 with just 18 yards on nine attempts. Brutal. He also hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 9 after somehow finding the end zone nine times in the first half of the season. Gurley’s late season stumbles have the Madden Ratings Adjustor team knocking him down another -2 OVR points, which means he’ll close the campaign at a 78 OVR, down a full eight points from his 86 OVR launch rating.
Teddy Bridgewater | QB | Carolina Panthers
It was a rough ending to the season for Teddy Bridgewater. Against the Saints in Week 17, he went 13 for 23 with just 176 yards and two interceptions (both in the red zone) and no touchdowns. To give him the benefit of the doubt, Bridgewater was dealing with a foot injury that eventually sidelined him in the game. He finishes the season with a 15:11 TD:INT ratio. The Madden Ratings Adjustor team is bumping his Overall Rating down one point this week, putting him at 78 OVR to end the year, up three points from where he kicked off the season, 75 OVR.
