RACE YOUR WAY - EA SPORTS™ F1® 25 DEEP DIVE
April 17, 2025
Circuits, customisation, and much more - get the low-down on the advancements being made throughout the game when F1® 25 launches on May 30 for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Watch the deep dive now:
Visual Authenticity
F1® 25 takes a big step forward when it comes to graphical fidelity. Not only do the tracks look better than ever, but they're much more accurate too, thanks to Light Detection and Ranging scanning, also known as LIDAR. Bahrain, Miami, Melbourne, Suzuka and Imola have all been digitally scanned, generating millions of data points. This data, ranging from tiny asphalt surface details to the height of kerbs and distance to barriers, is used for unprecedented accuracy when recreating tracks in-game, ensuring you feel every bump and change in elevation, just like F1® drivers.
Off the asphalt, LIDAR has helped make trees and foliage better match the species, placement, size, and shape of their real-life counterparts, with new additions such as cherry blossom trees added to Suzuka.
Outside of LIDAR circuits, other improvements have been made to several other circuits in the game.
These include track surface shader improvements with more pronounced tyre and lock up marks, as well as physical changes based on other collected real-world data. In one instance, bumps that were present on Silverstone for F1® 24, such as those on the Wellington straight and before Turn 1, have been smoothed out to better match the real-world surface.

Speaking of circuits, in a first for the official F1® games, you’ll be able to experience some of your favourite races in a unique way.
Race around Silverstone, Zandvoort, and the Red Bull Ring in a reverse track layout. Enjoy these once-familiar circuits in Grand Prix, Time Trial, and Multiplayer, or add them to My Team and Driver Career from your second season onwards.
This isn’t a case of just turning the cars around on the starting grid. On top of computer-controlled (AI) drivers needing to be retrained, you’ll notice that every detail in a typical Grand Prix has been adapted for racing in reverse. This includes subtle changes you may not even think about such as brake boards, start-lights, off-track cameras for replays, grid boxes, and even marshalls and flag wavers.
Pitlanes in particular required special attention. Now that you’ll now be entering from the exit, be sure to take care when merging on-track after making a stop. Plus, with the optimal racing line differing when racing in reverse, you’ll see that track surface wear lines and how drying lines form in the wet will have changed too.
We look forward to seeing what you think of these new-look circuits.
Introducing the Decal Editor
Moving on from tracks for now, we’re delighted to introduce our brand-new Decal Editor for F1® 25.
Customisable liveries now start with a base pattern that you’ll be able to personalise with sponsor decals. In previous games, sponsor placements have been locked to a number of fixed positions on the car. In F1® 25 though, decals have much more freedom, allowing them to be moved, rotated, and resized, with design variants unlockable throughout the game.
Driver numbers are getting a visual overhaul. New fonts and colours allow additional personality to shine through in your design when creating liveries for My Team and F1® World. You can even choose to have a different style of number on different parts of your car.
In addition, sponsor liveries will debut in F1® 25. These are more detailed base patterns for your car, built around the visual identity of the many fictional title sponsors in the game. By using the Decal Editor to add more sponsor decals, you can create a car that wouldn’t look out of place on the real-life grid.
In this year’s rebuilt My Team mode, these title sponsors affect income potential, which in turn affects team size and spending. Building a relationship over time with a single sponsor can unlock additional rewards, including owner XP and new decal variants.

Finally, special edition liveries that are added to the game will now be applied to the car they represent rather than the F1® World car. When you select a 2025 team to drive as in Driver Career, Grand Prix, Time Trial, or F1® World, you’ll be able to choose an applicable special livery. Once you’ve unlocked it, it’s yours to keep.
State-of-the-art Technologies
On top of the improvements to lighting, shadows, and circuits overall, an emerging PC-exclusive innovation called Path Tracing is being introduced.
Expanding on Ray Tracing technology and available as a new “Ultra Max” option in the graphics settings, light now follows every bounced path, including that from indirect lighting and multiple reflections. Shade, light, and colours dynamically shift as they would in real-life, whether you’re racing under the thousands of lights in Bahrain or navigating the castle section on Baku at sunset.
If you have a PC capable of experiencing it, Path Tracing is the most realistic simulation of light on track that we’ve ever delivered.
For those who aren’t just on PC, tonemapping and light balancing improvements create a more dramatic effect across all types of weather, with a better representation of different cloud coverage changes. Other multi-platform changes have been made, such as new image filters and HDR support in Photo Mode.
Collaborate On-Track
F1® World has had some exciting updates too. First up is a brand-new collaborative mode: Invitationals. These are special multiplayer events that open up throughout F1® World. Once you have one available, share access to the event with your friends and work together to complete the objective, earning rewards for doing so.
Some Invitationals will be more difficult than others, with rewards that scale based on the challenges at hand
We’ve also made some changes to promote teamwork and encourage respectful racing. Through an updated Driver of the Day system, accomplishments such as Cleanest Driver and Most Overtakes will be highlighted. What will your reputation be?
Listen Up
An upgraded audio experience throughout the game will bring you even closer to the action, both in and outside of the cockpit. Just like races in F1® 24, Qualifying now benefits from real-world driver dialogue over the radio, alongside drivers occasionally addressing race engineers.
Depending on what happens on-track, you may encounter some entirely new radio audio sequences, including voice lines for pole positions, flags, and those from team principals. We’ve more than doubled our pool of real driver voice lines since F1® 24, so be sure to keep an ear out for some familiar voices.
Speaking of which, Naomi Schiff has joined our roster of experts who feature throughout the game. Her talent adds to the largest number of commentary and cutscene voiceovers to-date, helping to make every race weekend feel just like a real-life broadcast.
Handling Revisions
Through a combination of rigorous internal tests and feedback gathered from the EA SPORTS F1® community, F1® Sim Racing participants, and EA Creator Network members, a number of changes have been made to how cars feel in F1® 25.
Here is a summary of some of the changes you may notice when compared to F1® 24. This isn’t a full list of changes, just a handful of highlights:
Controls
- For those of you who play on a controller, you’ll notice that track conditions and the car’s unique dynamics give a more intuitive feel to steering, allowing you to better understand the limits of grip. We’ve also tuned the steering rate for a more consistent feel at all car speeds.
- For wheel users, force feedback settings have been reviewed across a wide range of wheel models, with the goal of a more authentic feel. More specifically, improvements have been made for more informative aligning torque and changes that better communicate oversteer break-away when racing.
- We’ve made changes to the ‘Full’ Traction Control setting for better stability and less restrictive driving.
Tyres
- Tyres have had a lot of work done to them including adjustments to tyre loads and the tyre slip model, particularly in Time Trial.
- Rapid steering inputs, such as techniques that rely on ‘flicking’, will be less effective on race days, as a more aggressive driving style will result in overheating the tyres and faster wear.
- We’ve recalibrated wear rates for each tyre compound, with track-specific details playing a larger role. This, along with a better balance for alternative strategies at 50% races, should allow for more variation when planning a one-stop or two-stop race.
- Plus, there have been improvements to how tyres react to different ground material types, such as grass and gravel. Grip level tweaks based on real-world race data have been changed, with street circuits typically offering less grip than traditional circuits.
Power Unit
- Relating to the power unit, the clutch model has been revised with improved slip and blending for smoother shifting overall. This is most noticeable when using Automatic gears.
- The throttle mapping has been revised for smoother torque response, especially at low speeds. Plus, ERS (Energy Recovery System) has been recalibrated for deploy rates to allow for more strategic harvesting at high speeds.
Aero
- When it comes to Aero, our slipstream model has been adjusted for more improved racing. You're more likely to experience the effects of ‘dirty air’ this year compared to F1® 24. The accuracy of ride height and yaw effects has been adapted based on real-world CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and wind tunnel data.
AI Enhancements
We know that when playing offline, racing against the AI drivers should feel as thrilling and exciting as it does when watching the real-life sport.
Following trials in pre-release testing with highly-skilled players resulted in some incredible racing action, the team tuned the AI to better reflect their overtaking capabilities with one another and when racing players.
Other adjustments have been made, such as AI now being more likely to pull off defensive manoeuvres when protecting a position. Furthermore, whilst you may notice ‘trains’ form, just like in the real sport, the AI will make better tactical decisions as to when to deploy DRS (Drag Reduction System) and ERS.
With countless racing scenarios and over 100 difficulty levels to accommodate for, there's a lot of work that goes into AI. We hope the changes made for this year unlock more realistic and dynamic racing moments between you and these computer-driven competitors.
Quick-Fire Changes
Below are a number of other changes you can expect to see for F1® 25. If you’re familiar with our previous games, we’re sure you’re going to like what we have on offer:
- After a multitude of exciting and unpredictable roster changes in the off-season, the 2025 calendar will no doubt continue to surprise us right through until the finale in Abu Dhabi. With every driver and team represented, including cover star Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari and six rookies, you’ll have plenty of choices when deciding who you want to take to the top of the standings.
- When going off-track, pick up from grass and other off-track surfaces is more visually pronounced on the tyres. As in previous games, this pick-up can hinder your ability to grip to the surface of the track until it’s worn off, so be careful.
- Podium sequences have been reworked. We’ve used motion-driven cameras with more natural camera treatments for those top three celebrations to taste that little bit sweeter.
- Thanks to NVIDIA Audio2Face technology, we’ve been able to deliver more extensive facial animations. From Career to Braking Point, the reintroduced press interviews now capture drivers delivering their responses in a more authentic fashion, with this technology extending to facility heads in My Team.
- Also in My Team, the engine sound your car makes matches that of the supplier you choose.
- Some of the rule changes that have been introduced in the 2025 season have been added, such as the mandatory two-stop rule for Monaco and the removal of a point given for the fastest lap.
- For those on PS5 Pro, when playing in split-screen, you’ll notice the game runs at a smoother 60fps.
