• Sergio Agüero Interview

Last week saw EA SPORTS™ invite Sergio Agüero to visit ‘himself’ at the National Football Museum’s Pitch to Pixel exhibition.  The appearance included Agüero challenging a Manchester City Junior Cityzen competition winner on FIFA 16 and going face-to-face with a 3D print of his EA SPORTS FIFA headscan!

EA SPORTS: Sergio, first of all just tell us a little bit about what you have been doing today

Agüero: I am really happy to have had the chance to play with the little lad. We had great fun – it went really well!

EA SPORTS: And what about the game? I see he got the better of you there; 2-1 was it?

Agüero: I’m still feeling a bit miffed! I’m going to say that I’m not quite used to those controllers, but the main thing is that the lad is really happy and that is the main thing.

EA SPORTS: I think you have made this young man’s day! How important is it to come out and see these young fans?

Agüero: Yeh it’s always a pleasure. When a kid is that age, they don’t get the chance to meet you in person but just see pictures of you or see you on TV, so it’s really nice that you can go out and make them really really happy. Hopefully I have done that and it makes me feel good but he was a bit quiet, a boy of few words but that was probably down to nerves I would say.

EA SPORTS: Sergio on to footballing matters now, City top of the league – do you think you're in a good position to go on and win the title back this season?

Agüero: You have to remember that it is a very long campaign, there are a lot of games to go but obviously we are happy to be top of the league at the moment, but as I say it is a long campaign. We need to keep going in the same form that we have been in, showing decent form not only in the league but also in the Champions League as well but we have to be careful, one little defeat can cause you to worry and stress so what we need to do is avoid that when it comes around; try and avoid any defeats if we can!

EA SPORTS: A few new additions to the squad this summer, Sergio, what have you made of Kevin de Bruyne and have you been impressed with his start to the campaign?

Agüero: Yeh I’m really happy because I think the club did a great piece of business there. You’re always happy when quality players arrive at the club and I think he is certainly that. In the little chance that I have had to actually play alongside him, we were beginning to get a good understanding of each other. As I say, a great player and the main thing is that he settles in and shows us what he can do. And not only is he a great player, but a great lad off the field as well.

EA SPORTS: And Nicholas Otamendi – another Argentinian; you’re taking over Manchester! How have you helped him to settle in to his new surroundings?

Agüero: I am happy first and foremost that he is Argentinian, but obviously it is important that he is a good player and that he is going to be helping the team as well. The more the merrier in terms of Argentinians as far as I’m concerned! It’s great that more are getting here! Obviously he had a great season the season before this when he was with Valencia and that earned him his move here. I think that he is going to do a great job for us and that we need a big squad as it’s a long season with lots of games in lots of competitions. So the same as with Kevin, I hope that he settles and that he contributes to the team. And as I say, it’s an extra plus with him being Argentinian as well!

EA SPORTS: And how are you, Sergio? How is your rehabilitation going?

Agüero: Thanks very much, I don’t think I’m too far away now. I think physically (fitness-wise) I am feeling quite well and I have kept reasonably fit throughout the injury. My aim is Liverpool. I hope to train with the lads with the group altogether and I’m hoping to return in time for the Liverpool game. I have to take things slowly but I’m not far away now.

EA SPORTS: The last time you played you got five goals; can we expect a few more when you’re back?

Agüero: It’s a nice feeling - especially when you get five - but the main thing is that the team wins. All games are different and I’m just focusing on trying to get back and feeling good. If I’m feeling good in myself, hopefully the goals will come again. The main thing as I say is that it’s nice to score for the individual but the team winning, that’s the key.
