Preset Drop Spots and POI Drafts

A format change is coming to ALGS. For more details on Preset Drop Spots and POI Drafts, read here!

In case you’re less of a reader, here is a quick video that explains how POI Drafts will work for the Regular Season of Split 2 Pro Leagues.

With the start of the Apex Legends™ Global Series (ALGS) Split 2 Pro League, we’re excited to introduce a new change to the competition format, with the addition of the POI Draft system. This format change aims to even the playing field while challenging teams to adapt to different POIs and playstyles. You might have already seen some discussion on this topic on social media, but here’s a quick breakdown of POI Drafts and what that could mean for the competition. For the nitty gritty, check out Appendix F in the updated Official Rules.

FORMAT

Prior to each match day, teams will sequentially select their landing spots one at a time from a list of pre-determined spots on Storm Point and Worlds Edge.

The order of selection depends on the event. Split 2 Pro League POI Drafts will be randomly seeded snake drafts. Pro League Regional Finals, Split 2 Playoffs, and ALGS Championship POI Drafts will be performance-based weighted drafts.

Each POI Draft will roughly follow the process below:

  • A representative for each team will meet in the ALGS Pro League discord before each draft.
  • For the Split 2 Pro League, Regional Finals, Split 2 Playoffs Group Stage and Championship Group Stage, each team has ninety (90) seconds to make their choice. For Split 1 Playoffs Bracket Stage and Finals as well as the ALGS Championship Bracket Stage and Finals, each team will have thirty (30) seconds.
  • When teams make their first selection, they can choose a World’s Edge or Storm Point drop spot. By draft’s end, each team will need to have a chosen one drop spot on each map.
  • Once a landing spot is picked it’s off the board.

SEEDING

Here’s more info on how the teams will be seeded for each tournament:

Pro League Regular Season Split 2:

The seeding will be randomly assigned within their Regular Season groups.

Pro League Regular Season, Regional Finals:

Teams will be seeded based on their rank after Match Day 9 of the Pro League Regular Season.

Split 2 Playoffs:

  • Group Stage
    • Regional Seeding will be based on the performance of each Region and the Finishing Rank of Teams at the Split 1 Playoffs. For example, since Reject Winnity were our winners, the first seed for Split 2 Playoffs Group Stage will go to their Region (APAC North), and so on.
    • Each Team for the Split 2 Playoffs Group Stage will be seeded within their Region’s seed position.
  • Winners Round & Elimination Round 1
    • Teams will be seeded based on each team’s Group Stage Total Match Score.
  • Elimination Round 2
    • Teams will be seeded based on each team’s total Match Score after adding their Group Stage Total Match Score to their Winners Round or Elimination Round 1 Total Match Score. Teams from the Winners Round will be seeded between one (1) and ten (10) and Teams from Elimination Round 1 will be seeded between eleven (11) and twenty (20).
  • Match Point Finals
    • Similarly, teams will be seeded based on each Team’s total Match Score after adding their Group Stage Total Match Score to their Winners Round or Elimination Round 2 Total Match Score. Teams from the Winners Round will be seeded between one (1) and ten (10) and Teams from Elimination Round 2 will be seeded between eleven (11) and twenty (20).

So, there’s your quick overview of POI Drafts. For all the details in their full glory, take a peek at Appendix F in the Official Rules. We’re excited to see this in action during the upcoming Split 2 Pro League which begins on June 1 across all four regions. Make sure to tune in to our broadcast on Apex Legends Esports official Twitch or YouTube channels. See you there!
