Electronic Arts Agrees To Acquire TRACAB Technologies

TRACAB's advanced tracking technology enhances EA SPORTS' ability to deliver unrivaled realism and immersive experiences

February 3, 2025

At EA SPORTS, we’re driven by the passion and energy that sports ignite in fans around the world. This spirit is what inspires us every day to push the boundaries of what’s possible, creating sports experiences that grow fandom, and bring together global communities in, around, and beyond our games.

At the core of that is a constant focus on innovation. For the last several years, EA SPORTS has invested in tools, technology and capabilities that further enhance the authenticity and immersion in our games, and enable us to move at the speed of sport. Our solutions are able to ingest massive amounts of real-world volumetric data to inform Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning models, all powering incredible advancements in our gameplay and animation capabilities.

And today, we’re taking another step to accelerate our efforts by welcoming a new team to our EA SPORTS family.

“Our EA SPORTS games are becoming living, breathing simulations of sport, and TRACAB’s cutting-edge technology and expertise in real-time data capture and analysis will enable us to enhance realism, immersion, and engagement in all our experiences.”

Welcoming TRACAB Technologies to the EA SPORTS family

Electronic Arts (EA) is proud to share that we’ve reached an agreement to acquire TRACAB Technologies, a leader in advanced sports optical tracking and analysis solutions. As they join EA SPORTS, we expect to leverage TRACAB’s technology and teams as we continue to harness advanced AI, machine learning, and real-time sports data to advance how we create lifelike animation and simulate real-world action.

Looking ahead, we also expect TRACAB to support how we are moving beyond games, and our vision for the EA SPORTS App to be the leading interactive sports platform in the world.

The acquisition is expected to close in EA’s first fiscal quarter of FY26.

“Data is at the center of every meaningful advancement in the world of sports today, and as EA SPORTS leads the future of interactive sports experience through the use of more and more real-world data, and TRACAB will bring more best-in-class capture and data technologies directly into our portfolio,” says Cam Weber, President of EA SPORTS. “As we continue to evolve our EA SPORTS experiences into living, breathing simulations of sport, we expect TRACAB’s cutting-edge technology and expertise in live event data combined with our game engine to also accelerate groundbreaking new features in the EA SPORTS App.”

“Joining EA SPORTS marks an exciting new chapter for TRACAB Technologies,” says Martin Brogren, GM of TRACAB Technologies. “Our mission has always been to push the boundaries of sports data and analysis, and with EA SPORTS’ vast resources and vision for innovation, we’re confident that we can create even more immersive and dynamic experiences for sports fans around the world.”

Accelerating Realism with TRACAB

TRACAB’s advanced sports optical tracking tracks nearly everything happening on the field or pitch at 60Hz per second, generating 600 million data points per game, including 65 unique data points per player and referee by capturing live skeleton data from 21 joints on each individual body on the pitch, as well as center of mass and ball tracking, and so much more.

These capabilities can unlock a new level of enhanced realism, animation and dynamic, real time simulation for our fans and allow EA SPORTS to leverage TRACAB’s ability to generate near real-time insights for media broadcast teams, referees, players, coaches, and fans.

Athletes all over the world do extraordinary things every time they step on the pitch to compete. EA SPORTS with TRACAB capabilities can bring more of those amazing movements and moments to life in near real-time in our games and beyond.  We can further transform player stats, behaviors, and team AI with new levels of fidelity, and continue delivering more deeply immersive experiences that mirror the fluidity and excitement of real athletes and competition.

Going Beyond Games with the EA SPORTS App

In addition to helping enable the most realistic sports simulation experiences, we’re planning for TRACAB’s volumetric data capture technologies, combined with EA SPORTS’ capabilities and game engine, to help open up completely new opportunities for fans to create and share in the EA SPORTS App – beginning with reimagined highlights, predictive simulations, and even watching alternative broadcasts on-demand.

While the EA SPORTS App is currently only regionally available in Spain, as we expand to more fans and more regions, TRACAB will accelerate our vision of making the EA SPORTS App the world’s leading interactive sports platform.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. EA SPORTS will reveal more about TRACAB and specific product plans in the future. To stay updated on the latest EA SPORTS news, follow on Instagram, Tik Tok, X, and Facebook or visit easports.com.
