This article covers the latest two maps, Provence and Lofoten Islands, both built for those who prefer all-out infantry combat.

    Provence Map Overview

This map is based in occupied France and takes place in 1943. Despite the Axis stranglehold on the area, resistance is steadily growing stronger with the help of Allied RAF commando operations deep behind enemy lines. The narrow, cobblestoned streets once filled with life and laughter are now a charnel house echoing with gunfire, shouted orders, and the cries of the wounded and dying.

    Playstyle

There aren’t many lulls in the action on this intense map. The primary playstyle is full-tilt, all-out combat with barely enough time to catch your breath before the next encounter. While the speed of the gameplay may cater to SMGs and shotguns primarily, there are longer sightlines that can afford snipers and LMG players some inviting opportunities.

You’ll be able to play both Squad Conquest and Team Deathmatch on this map.

Key Areas and Conquest Capture Points

The Provence map is set in a once-quaint little town in the French countryside. Don’t let the small size of this map fool you – there are plenty of ways to get the upper hand on your enemies in the tight streets and courtyards. While there’s no shortage of flanking opportunities, be aware that ambushes and chokepoints are a very real hazard, so keep your eyes and ears open for unexpected attacks and literal dead ends.

    Capture Point A: Church Courtyard

A fountain serves as the centerpiece of this small courtyard. Stacks of military supplies are a sign that war has arrived and taken the place of the peace and contemplation it once offered local worshippers.

    Capture Point B: Riverside Manor

Alongside the river stands a lovely manor that now serves as the quarters of Axis soldiers when they aren’t on guard around the perimeter of the town. These makeshift barracks present a warren of rooms and corridors hiding any number of surprise attacks.

    Capture Point C: Anti-Air Plaza

As the commercial center of the town, this plaza used to be brimming with market stalls and bustling locals. Today, Axis forces have converted it into a disturbingly effective anti-aircraft base – ensuring that any enemy planes flying overhead meet a quick, fiery death.

    Tips for Success on Provence

    • Check your corners, no matter how fast you’re moving – it can mean the difference between staying in the fight or meeting a quick end.
    • Many buildings are closed off but that doesn’t mean they’re all empty. Keep a sharp eye out for the telltale flash of a gun sight or glinting barrel aimed in your direction from a nearby window.
    • There’s always another way around. While the map is small, there are many ways to move around chokepoints and outflank your enemy!

    Lofoten Islands Map Overview

The map takes place on the Lofoten Islands in the late spring of 1941 and is loosely based on Operation Claymore. This British commando operation was tasked with destroying vital, Axis-held fish oil factories on the islands. The oil was being shipped to Germany, where glycerine was extracted and used to manufacture high explosives. On this map, combat breaks out at both a fish oil factory (on the first island) and in a nearby village (on the second island).

    Playstyle

While fast-paced, Lofoten supports a variety of engagement ranges: long, medium, and short.  There are long sightlines for snipers but not many places for concealment. Firing and relocating quickly will be the best strategy. What little cover enemies can find in open buildings can be efficiently eliminated with the strategic application of explosives.

You’ll be able to play a variety of game modes on the map, depending upon your location. For example, Team Deathmatch is set on the village island, while Squad Conquest takes place around the fish oil factory on a separate island.

Key Areas and Squad Conquest Capture Points

Capture points only appear on one of the two islands, as the second (village) island is only available in the Team Deathmatch mode. This more industrialized location was once a hub for both local commercial fishing and shipping. Giant vats filled with fish oil dominate the central area of the map, while the once-bustling dock and fish barn stand all but abandoned to the south. To the west, smaller homes and cabins dot the landscape offering much-needed cover.

    Capture Point A: Communications

This cramped fishing cabin in the northwest area of the map has been repurposed as an Axis communications position. The cabin offers a good view of both the surrounding countryside and the factory grounds.

    Capture Point B: Fish Barn

This operational headquarters for the factory is also the largest building on the island and sits to the south, near the docks. This multi-leveled structure provides excellent opportunities for scouting out enemies trying to advance along the coastline.

    Capture Point C: Upper Vats

Large tanks of fish oil glycerin overlook the factory grounds from the north. This storage facility offers the highest elevation on the map, which can be useful for longer range engagements. But be mindful that this point can be tricky to hold as threats can come from many angles.

Tips for Success on Lofoten Islands

    • Pinned down by fire from a nearby building? Demolish it with dynamite or other explosives and instantly remove their cover.
    • The fish oil factory is surrounded by several wooden fences. You can shoot through these fences to open a flank or even set up an ambush for an unsuspecting enemy.
    • When flanking under the docks, use the pylons for cover and don’t forget to equip short-range weapons.
