Multiplayer Classes: The Battlefield Hardline Way
Last week I wrote a blog where I discussed some of the vehicle and gadget changes we’ve made that highlight speed. It’s not all about speed though, this week we’re going to focus on another pillar of Battlefield multiplayer; Strategy. Battlefield has always been a franchise that rewards teamwork and strategy and Hardline is no different. Let me share with you our strategic choices with the different class loadouts and gadgets:
Operator aka Medic
The Operator is our classic medic. He’s the guy right there on the front lines healing and reviving teammates and blasting the enemy with his Assault Rifle. We’ve given this class the Survivalist gadget that allows an Operator to revive themselves after an explosion or road kill. Heal up so you can get back to healing! By the way, got an Operator who won’t drop a medpack on your team? Just run up to him and push the interact button and you will take the health; no more jumping around to get their attention.
Mechanic aka Repair Guy
The Mechanic is our repair guy, but he now has the sabotage gadget as well. This gadget is placed on interactive objects and explodes when the other team interacts with them – great for placing on objectives your team is currently focused on! Of course they still are the repair class, which is as important as ever, just ask anyone who steals a Hotwire car and needs repairs to keep their score streak going. With RPGs moved to Battle Pickups we’ve given the Mechanic a grenade launcher to use when your team needs a little more heavy firepower.
Sabotage
Enforcer aka Attacker
The Enforcer has seen some interesting strategic changes, maybe more so than any other class. Since we moved the LMGs to Battle Pickups, we gave this class Battle Rifles to make up for it, giving Enforcers an interesting choice. They can use a Shotgun; or bring a Riot Shield to be that classic front line guy drawing fire and dealing close range damage; or they can bring a Battle Rifle and focus more on being a long range combatant who can also resupply their team with ammo and keep those pesky snipers in check.
Professional aka Sniper
The Professional, our sniper, has also seen some pretty cool changes. They can lay down a camera which will spot enemies on the minimap for their team – always useful! They can also set a decoy which will show false enemies on the other team’s minimap. Great for drawing people in… like shooting fish in a barrel. I can’t forget laser tripmines, which are a great way to protect your back when sniping. Lastly we gave them the Stealth gadget which allows them to creep around undetected, giving their team an edge.
Tripmine
Don’t be afraid to mix up your loadouts. Having a favorite setup is great but it’s also really nice to be able to switch out your kit depending on the situation. Thanks for reading.
