The New Service Assignments and Specializations of Battlefield 1

The release of Battlefield 1 Turning Tides will, of course, include new maps, weapons, and vehicles – but there is even more to be excited about. New Service Assignments and Specializations will also be introduced when the update arrives on December 11. Following the head start for Battlefield 1 Premium Pass owners, these will be available for all players. In case you missed it, learn all about the Battlefield 1 Turning Tides release.

As you might know, Service Assignments are in-game Battlefield 1 challenges that you can tackle to earn Specializations. The latter are loadout options – either generic or class-specific – that give you more tactical options on the battlefield. We’ve covered both features in earlier articles, if you want to brush up on the basics:

8 New Service Assignments Including Pilot and Tanker Challenges

We’re adding 8 Service Assignments to Battlefield 1 in December, and we’ve worked towards several goals when designing them. The main intent is that the assignments are constructed with specific Classes in mind. A player using a Class for its intended purpose should be able to make good progress on the Service Assignments. Also, Pilot and Tanker fans will be pleased to see their favorite classes getting unique challenges.

We also wanted to make sure that many of the Service Assignments can be progressed simultaneously. While you attempt a more difficult challenge, you can still be making progress on the others.

Here’s a full breakdown of the Service Assignments and their rewards. Note that any 5 out of the 6 tasks of each assignment need to be completed to unlock the reward.

8 new Specializations – Approach the Battle in Original Ways

Thanks to the unique perks of the eight added Specializations, you and your teammates can gain an important edge over the competition. As with the Service Assignments, notice how these Specializations are closely tied to the Battlefield 1 Classes, including the Tanker and Pilot.

Below you’ll find a full list of how these Specializations work – and why we’ve added them.

  • PILFERER: Enemies killed by melee attacks drop helpful items related to their Class, such as AT Mines and Ammo Pouches.
As an Assault player in extreme close quarters, use Pilferer to be an even better asset to your team.
  • RECIPROCITY: Each time you heal an ally, you gain 12.5 HP (up to once per second).
This is designed to make Medics even more flexible in their healing.
  • PERSEVERANCE: While holding the Repair Tool, walking speed is increased by 25% and explosive damage resistance is increased by 20%.
Here, our goal was to increase the survival rate of Support players risking their lives to patch up rides.
  • RIPPLE: After headshotting an enemy with a Single-Action Rifle, the next spot will be an outline spot.
A tool to enable Scouts to better contribute to large-scale battles.
  • CLOUD COVER: The time your airplane is spotted is reduced from 12 seconds to 6 seconds.
A Specialization designed to make your flying aces survive longer.
  • SAFE BAIL: When a player exits your aircraft, they are accompanied by a Spotting Flare.
Gives airdropped players crucial intel about the territory they’re landing in.
  • CRITICAL COVER: When your tank is disabled, smoke is automatically deployed (45s cooldown).
This Specialization gives your tank a better chance to survive using visual cover.
  • CONVOY: While self-repairing in your tank, other vehicles in a 10-meter radius are healed for 2HP per second.
A good benefit for land vehicles that move together. Share the health!

Note that on top of these vehicle-specific Specializations, the Pilot and Tanker classes will get the 3 default Specializations already existing in Battlefield 1 (Flak, Cover, Quick Regen.) If unlocked, the Specializations Quick Unspot, Hasty Retreat, and Inconspicuous will also be available for Pilots and Tankers.

So, what about the Cavalry class? Though we have no news on whether we will implement Service Assignments and Specializations for those seeking new challenges on horseback, we are looking into it.

Thanks for reading. Remember that we’re taking all your feedback into consideration and will keep tweaking the Service Assignments and Specializations to make Battlefield 1 an even more fun and challenging experience.
