Balanced has remained a popular option among pro players as their starting defensive style this year, and Gorilla is no different with this tactic as he opts for a balanced set-up with 50 width and 71 depth.
Remember, your players always need to match the system you play, so it is recommended that fast center-backs are used when deploying a high line, and make sure you’re taking advantage of the shadow and anchor chemistry styles to give your defenders a pace boost. Raphael Varane is an example that Gorilla has used, with the French defender having a high base pace rating of 81.
The Excel FC24 pro also emphasises the importance of having a pacey left-back that is good on the ball, and that is because this tactic moves away from the popular instruction to tell full-backs to stay back while attacking. The left-back in Gorilla’s custom tactic is left on 'balanced and overlap,' and that allows them to make an impact on the game from advanced areas when linking up with forwards.
A balanced build-up style with direct passing sees the attack force opposition defenders back, while 50 width provides a distance between the attacking players that allows the three forwards to link up with each other without limiting spaces. Gorilla is an expert at knowing which skill moves to use in the right situations, and that is where the left forward (LF) and right forward (RF) can be used to isolate defenders, while the players in the box, set to 7, provides him with options when close to the byline.
One of the most important features of Gorilla’s 4-3-2-1 tactic is how the team behaves in defensive transitions. Importantly, he sets the LF to come back on defence, while the left center midfielder (LCM) and center midfielder are told to 'stay back and cover center,' but Gorilla leaves the right center midfielder (RCM) on the default setting of 'cover wing' – and this allows his side to defend in a 4-4-2 formation without the ball.
Gorilla uses the likes of Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe, and Ronaldinho for his preferred front three, but if those players are unattainable, players who fit a similar profile or have the same playstyles such as the quick-step, rapid, and technical traits are strong choices when constructing the forward line.
Whether being used in champions, rivals, or squad battles, Gorilla’s custom tactic can help attack-minded players discover new ways to unlock their opponent to garner greater weekly rewards. Be sure to let us know how you get on by getting in touch at @EASportsFCPro on X.
