Bonanno starts with 70 depth to utilise a four-player high press from the front, with 45 width to provide balance in looking to protect both wide and central areas.
Both full-backs are left on their default setting of balanced in this one, allowing them to provide width to the attack when they venture forward to support the wide areas. The full-backs are a vital element of this custom tactic, and it is important that a player with high pace and dribbling stats is used, so that they are able to make an impact when they find themselves in advanced positions.

Both centre defensive midfielders (CDMs) have the same instructions, as they are both told to stay back, cover centre, and cut passing lanes. This maintains structure in the middle of the pitch against potential counter attacks, and it is recommended that midfielders who don’t lack in the passing attribute are used for moments when the opportunity arises to deliver a powerful ground pass (R1 + X / RB + A) into the forwards.
The wide centre attacking midfielders (CAMs) should also have pace as they are told to get into the box for crosses as well as come back on defence. It is also important that they are agile enough with dribbling stats to move out of difficult situations against the press. A width setting of 50 means the two CAMs will make an impact from the flank as well as centrally, and they will often provide the option for the defence to transition balls into midfield.
Matias keeps it simple with his striker instructions as he sets both of them to come back on defence. That helps provide defensive assistance, but more importantly, not be positioned too far away from the play when possession is retrieved. Many players favour the “get in behind” instruction when playing two forwards, but it is important that play can be linked between the CAMs and strikers, a balanced setting for attacking movement allows for a more patient approach against stubborn defences, enabling the AI to choose when to get in behind unless triggered manually (L1/LB).
