Verjgang "Yes, I am the G.O.A.T" after FC Pro Open

Anders Vejrgang has cemented his status as one of the finest players in EA SPORTS FC history, adding another trophy to his growing collection by winning the FC Pro Open 25. In a tournament where expectations were sky-high, the young Danish prodigy delivered yet again, demonstrating not only his undeniable skill but also his unwavering mentality.

For Vejrgang, lifting the FC Pro Open trophy brought a sense of relief rather than sheer joy.

“I would say that I’m relieved. Every tournament that I go into, I know that usually I’m the best, but you can’t win all the time,” he admitted. “I think I could’ve played better today, but the only thing that matters in the end is lifting the trophy and making sure I have enough time to prepare for the next tournament.”

In the grand final, Vejrgang faced a familiar challenge in Obrun, a formidable opponent with a unique playstyle that has troubled many.

“I took the lead, so I had a good start, and then he scored a free-kick against me, like LJR Peixoto and Nicolas99fc. I can count how many free-kicks I concede,” Vejrgang joked.

What followed was a chaotic back-and-forth encounter, filled with rebounds, unexpected goals, and nerve-wracking moments.

“I think it was 4-2 for me, and then he scored from the kick-off to make it 4-3. I passed the ball straight to Cole Palmer, and he scored, which was very dumb. In the end, I think he could’ve scored about three times, and I could’ve scored about twice, so it was very close and could’ve easily gone to extra-time.”

Recognising the pressure of the moment, Vejrgang took a strategic pause in the 88th minute to regain control.

“I took a pause to calm down and take the momentum out of the game because there were a lot of chances. After that, there were no chances, despite giving him the ball twice. It could’ve gone wrong, but in the end, I managed to win.”

As the match played out, echoes of the previous year’s FC Pro Open final crept into his mind.

“The only time I thought about it was when I realised it was 3-2 to me at half-time, and then I thought about how it was 3-2 last year at this point too. It could’ve been déjà vu, but you could also say that I lost last year, so now it’s my turn to win.”

Despite having a history of tough encounters with Obrun, Vejrgang entered the match with confidence.

“Before the game, I was very confident because usually I lose more than I win against Obrun as his playstyle is very difficult to play against. However, I felt like I was playing good enough today to beat him, and it’s been a few years since I played him last. I was just trying to remain focused, and I’m happy that I was good enough to win.”

Vejrgang was full of respect for his opponent, acknowledging how difficult it is to adapt to his unconventional approach.

“The way Obrun plays is so different from anyone else. He likes to play on the right side, make a pass to Rafael Leão, and because of the camera angle, you can’t even really see Leão, which makes it impossible to defend against.”

However, adaptability is one of Vejrgang’s greatest strengths.

“When he’s the only one playing like this, you have to adapt fast because it’s not a style of play that you’re usually playing against. However, I think that one of my strengths is to adapt very well and always do enough to make sure that I win.”

With the FC Pro Open 25 victory secured, Vejrgang now shifts his focus to the FC Pro World Championship.

“For me personally, the only goal is to qualify for the FC Pro World Championship. I managed to do that by coming first in my group, so I achieved the goal that I had. I also know that I’m the best, so I still want to win more.”

His journey to the final included a crucial opening match against AbuMakkah, the current world-number one and rival.

“He’s a ranked opponent, and I really wanted to show that I’m better. I also knew that if I won that game, I’d qualify for next year’s FC Pro Open too. I also knew that if I beat Peixoto, I’d be playing Obrun in the final. Both players were very good, but there were a few other players in the tournament that I’d fear a little more.”

Despite his dominance, Vejrgang is well aware that more challenges lie ahead, particularly in the eChampions League.

“I’ve been horrible in the eChampions League. I think I got top six in Istanbul, but I don’t care about a sixth-place finish as my only goal is to win. Last year, I didn’t even qualify, so this year I want to qualify at least.”

His focus also shifts to the Virtual Bundesliga, a key competition for his club, RBLZ Gaming.

“The next tournament is the Virtual Bundesliga, which is really important for my club, so that’s also something that motivates me. I know that I can win if I just hit my level, and it’s important for the club to be the best team in Germany. I’m doing everything I can to prepare myself for that tournament.” When asked about his legacy in EA SPORTS FC, Vejrgang did not hesitate.

“Yes, I am the G.O.A.T.”

With his latest triumph, his claim is becoming harder and harder to dispute.
