Having started his esports career back on FIFA 20, Julien ‘Fouma’ Perbal is vastly experienced as well as highly skilled. The Frenchman first made waves while competing for Atlantide Wave, reaching the last 16 of the eChampions League in May 2021 as a debutant.
Just a month later, the 21-year-old won his first of three consecutive eLigue 1 titles, competing this time for FC Lorient. Back on the international circuit, Fouma pocketed his biggest prize to date in July 2021, winning the Global Series European Playoffs thanks to a 5-2 victory over Spaniard Neat – taking home $100,000 in the process.
The following year, while playing for France, Fouma helped Les Bleus reach the quarter-final of the 2022 eNations Cup, eventually losing to a stacked Brazilian team. At the 2023 edition, France improved to reach the semi-finals – only to be thwarted yet again by Brazil.
This strong showing was backed up in the eClub World Cup, as Fouma – once again competing for Atlantide Wave – reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to FUTWIZ.
Fouma went into the 2023-24 season with 30 wins from 60 matches for Wave and will stay with them and Lorient for the campaign, having signed a new deal with the French team in September of this year. “Very happy to announce my signing to FC Lorient for this new season…thanks to the club for the trust,” he stated on Twitter.
There was further positive news as he progressed through the FC Pro Open Global Qualifier - despite suffering back-to-back defeats against JistenNSQ and Happy - beating Jafonso, Dudu27 and Paulo Neto in the Swiss Stage. The Frenchman's route through the knockouts was more straightforward, as he overcame nicolas99fc 5-3 and then beat H1dalgo 7-1.
