Some of the most memorable moments of David Beckham’s career came against Argentina, but since forming Guild Esports he has teamed up with one very special Argentine: Nicolas Villalba, commonly known as Nicolas99fc.
The 23-year-old joined them in 2021 and went on to win the eChampions League just a year later. He did it in a special fashion against matiasbonanno99 in the final, coming back from a 2-0 defeat in the first leg with an incredible 7-0 victory in the second to lift the trophy and take €70,000 in winnings.
Nicolas99fc has earned the nickname of The Iceman due to his composure shown when in action, and that was on full display as the goals were celebrated with little more than a fist bump.
There was heartbreak in the eWorld Cup that same year, though, as a 0-0 draw in both legs of the Argentine’s final against Umut saw the contest decided by a penalty shootout that was won 5-4 by Germany.
He was also runner-up in the 2019 eNations Series, drawing 1-1 in the first leg against Maestro before France’s DaXe beat YagoCai 2-1 in the second leg to spark French celebrations in London.
After that defeat, Nicolas99fc said: "France played to get a draw in the first game and tried to win against Yago in the second. Yago played better than I expected. I trust him, but I had a lot of responsibility this tournament."
That offers an indication of the level of respect the 23-year-old has gained and maintained in the scene. He has also developed a Twitch following of almost 100k and amassed 41.9k subscribers on YouTube.
