• The Pitch Notes FIFA 23 | UWCL and NWSL Deep Dive

Hey everyone, this is Munraj, producer on the EA SPORTS FIFA Live development team, and I’m happy to share news on two new competitions coming by March 23rd in a Title Update to FIFA 23.

When FIFA 23 launched, we added the ability to play as women’s club teams, with the Barclays Women’s Super League and Division 1 Arkema. We recognize the role we have in representing the diverse world of football to our players.

With that, I’m pleased to announce the addition of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL), and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), which will add some of the best clubs in women’s football.

The addition of these competitions adds new clubs & players. These clubs/players are playable (and editable) all over the game, from Kick-Off to Online Seasons to Edit Teams/Players. In this article, I’ll describe what to expect.

    UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL)

The UWCL competition is fully playable in the following game modes:

    • Kick-Off
    • Tournament Mode

In Kick-Off, you can choose to play a Home & Away match by playing in the semi-finals, complete with the full broadcast experience, or directly into the UWCL Finals to watch your club hoist the trophy. You can select any available European women’s club to play in these match types.

In Tournament Mode, you start the competition from the quarter-finals onwards, again with the full authentic match broadcast experience. You can select any available European Women’s club, along with some new clubs.

Four new clubs have also been added:

    • Real Madrid C.F.
    • VfL Wolfsburg
    • Juventus
    • Eintracht Frankfurt

These clubs provide depth to the European continental competition, adding some of the best clubs in the world for you to play with. These four clubs, along with the existing WSL & D1F clubs round out all of the playable teams you can use in this competition.

All clubs are selectable in the game modes mentioned above, with the four new clubs selectable under the “Rest of World” category for Women’s clubs. All clubs are playable in Online Seasons & Online Friendlies as well.

    National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL)

The new NWSL clubs are playable in the following game modes:

    • Kick-Off
    • Online Seasons (Head-to-Head & Co-op)
    • Online Friendlies
    • Tournament Mode

In Kick-Off, Online Seasons & Online Friendlies, you can choose to play with any of the 12 clubs in the league. If both clubs in the match are from the NWSL, you’ll see the authentic match broadcast experience in these modes.

In Tournament Mode, you can choose any club to start your NWSL campaign, taking your team through the season to win the NWSL Shield and play in the NWSL Playoffs to eventually become champions, lifting the NWSL trophy. In this mode you’ll also receive the full authentic match broadcast experience.

Thanks for taking the time to read this update on the UWCL and NWSL. Hope you’ll enjoy playing these competitions!
