It’s time for national team dreams to become reality. The FIFA World Cup 2022™ is here, with Path to Glory player items that level up with each step that their country takes towards the trophy. The further they go in realising their ambitions on the pitch at the FIFA World Cup™, the better they’ll become in your Ultimate Team squad.
How it Works
Each Path to Glory player item—with at least one from each of the 32 nations competing at this year’s FIFA World Cup™—will be eligible for upgrades based on their country’s real-world performance. Each player item starts the campaign with a base upgrade and can receive additional boosts if their team progresses to each successive stage. Progression to the Round of 16 and Quarter Finals will each earn a +1 In-Form Upgrade. Progression to the Semi Finals will earn player items 5* Weak Foot. Progression to the Finals will earn player items 5* Skill Moves. Winning the FIFA World Cup™ will earn players another +1 In-Form Upgrade, along with three select traits tailored to that player’s position. Once a player’s nation is eliminated, they will not earn any more upgrades.
FAQ
When will items be upgraded in-game?
Path to Glory item upgrades will occur the day after each stage of the tournament has been completed.
- Round of 16 upgrades starting from December 3rd†.
- Quarter Final upgrades starting from December 7th.
- Semi Final upgrades starting from December 12th.
- Final upgrades starting from December 15th.
- Winner upgrades starting from December 19th.
† Teams that qualify for the Round of 16 after just two group games will receive early upgrades, starting on November 28th.
Does the player have to play for their nation in order to receive upgrades?
No—Path to Glory player items will receive upgrades based on their nation’s progress regardless of whether or not they play at the FIFA World Cup™.
Can a player receive upgrades once their nation has been knocked out of the FIFA World Cup™?
No—Path to Glory player items will only receive upgrades by progressing to the next round. If they’ve received an upgrade for progressing to a given round and their nation loses/is knocked out, they will not receive any further upgrades.
Is there an upgrade for winning the Third Place Play Off?
No—Path to Glory player items that reach the Third Place Play Off match will have lost in the Semi Finals, eliminating them from any future upgrades.
What happens if a player already has 5* Weak Foot or 5* Skill Moves when they reach those upgrade stages?
If a player item already has 5*WF and they reach the Semi Final, they’ll receive a +1 In-Form Upgrade instead. Similarly, if a player item already has 5*SM and they reach the Final, they’ll receive a +1 In-Form Upgrade instead.
What traits will be given to the player who wins the FIFA World Cup™?
The three select traits will depend on the player’s position and existing traits.

FIFA World Cup™ Heroes
How will FIFA World Cup™ Heroes be released in FUT?
FIFA World Cup™ Heroes will be available in FUT across two team releases starting November 11. They will replace their Base FUT Hero version while in packs. Some FIFA World Cup™ Heroes may only be available as Player Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) or Objective rewards.
FIFA World Cup™ Swaps
How do FIFA World Cup™ Swaps work?
You can earn up to 50 FIFA World Cup™ Swaps Tokens in-game from Friday November 11 until the program ends on January 4th. Earn your first FIFA World Cup™ Swaps token by logging into FUT before Dec 24.
Most of the remaining FIFA World Cup™ Swaps tokens will be available to earn by using Limited Time FIFA World Cup™ Player items to complete Offline and Online Objectives.
Two of the 50 FIFA World Cup™ Swaps tokens will be available in the Season 2 Rewards Ladder. Plus, look out for some bonus FIFA World Cup™ Swap tokens available in the FUT Store.
Redeem FIFA World Cup™ Swaps tokens for permanent rewards including FIFA World Cup™ Star Players, FIFA World Cup™ ICONs, Packs and Player Picks. Rewards are available for redemption now within the Squad Building Challenges menu until January 4th.
FIFA World Cup™ ICONs
What are FIFA World Cup™ ICONs?
FIFA World Cup™ ICONs will be the first release of Campaign ICONs in FUT23. The first two FIFA World Cup™ ICONs will be available to earn as part of FIFA World Cup™ Swaps rewards. Most of the remaining FIFA World Cup ICONs will be made available across two team releases starting Fri November 25. Similar to Campaign Heroes, FIFA World Cup™ ICONs will replace their Base & Mid version while available in packs. Some FIFA World Cup™ ICONs may only be available as Player SBC or Objectives rewards.
What rating will FIFA World Cup™ ICONs be?
FIFA World Cup™ ICONs will have an OVR in-between their Mid & Prime version. However, some attributes, Skill Moves and Weak Foot ratings and more may be higher compared to their Prime version.
Team of the Week Update
What happens to the Team of the Week during the FIFA World Cup™?
Team of the Week will pause during the FIFA World Cup™. The final TOTW will run from Wednesday November 16 to Wednesday November 23, it will resume after the resumption of the domestic league season.
What happens to FUT Champions Finals rewards during the FIFA World Cup™?
While the Team of the Week is paused, all packs containing Team of the Week and FUT Champions players will be replaced with new Min. OVR Packs and Players Picks. Stay tuned for an update in-game.
