GAMEPLAY
Welcome to the EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile Gameplay Deep Dive for the April 2024 Update. We have been hard at work to fine-tune and improve many aspects of gameplay so that your experience feels smoother and more responsive. Ultimately, we want to find the sweet spot between meeting community expectations and the overall gameplay vision.
Over the past few months, we have been reading and digesting the community’s feedback to understand what are the most requested improvements for this release.
The theme of this Gameplay Update is to improve Passing and Dribbling responsiveness while leveling up the fluidity of player movement to bring better build-up play and more scoring opportunities in matches. At the same time, we have revisited the effectiveness of crossing from the wings and balancing how defenders react to them.
In this Deep Dive we will go into detail on what improvements and refinements you can expect to see on April 9th 2024 UTC. We are excited to share these updates with you and hope to see more community feedback on how to keep improving EA SPORTS FC Mobile’s gameplay!
Here’s a look at what Gameplay Update are coming:
- Improved Ground Passes and Ground Through Pass targeting to better lead your attackers into more goal-scoring situations.
- Adjusted Crossing to better reflect your player’s attributes and contextual position on the pitch. Reduced the speed of crosses to balance the effectiveness of crossing.
- Improved Auto Switch Move Assist and Corner Kick Player Selection to help how you defend aerial threats.
- Improved Jog Dribble so that your players have a higher speed when not sprinting, leading to a more agile feeling on the ball and less sluggishness in general.
- Improved Player Movement through Dynamic Sprint Dribble to increase your player’s responsiveness when sprinting.
- Skippable Goal and Offsides Replays in Head to Head along with more Goal Replay variety.
- Increased difficulty of VS Attack Basic Chances.
- Substitutions are directly accessible from the menu with one tap.
- Various community-focused bug fixes, such as an issue where some players would not jump in two player header situations.
PASSING
We heavily focused on making passing more reliable and effective so that you can build up your attacks more directly and get into better scoring positions.
GROUND PASSES
Improvements have been made to Ground Passes targeting so that your directed passes will now better avoid opponent defenders. Your passes will also better lead the receiver when your players are in motion. These improvements should make Ground Passes feel more reliable all over the pitch.
GROUND THROUGH PASSES
Along with better targeting, Ground Through Passes will better lead your attackers into more favourable attacking zones. You will see more passes thread through defenders lines at tighter angles to create more realistic passing situations and more attacking opportunities. In general, Ground Through Passes have been adjusted to lead your players further ahead as you advance across the pitch.
CROSSING
Crossing has seen a lot of adjustments in the upcoming update, with crossing accuracy and effectiveness being reworked to better reflect players’ attributes and the position the crosser is in. This will make effective crossing more challenging, but ultimately more rewarding, as you will need to consider more factors when choosing to cross in from the wings. These factors are the following:
Player Crossing Attributes means that the quality, accuracy, and speed of the cross will better reflect your player’s individual attributes, determined by Crossing. Weak foot will also play a larger role in determining how effective the cross is.
Positioning will play a major role in determining how accurate your crosses will be. For example, if your winger is sprinting at full speed down the wing with a defender on his hip and facing away from the box, it will be more difficult to effectively play a good cross into an attacker. On the other hand, if you have space and time to properly set your winger up for a cross, there’s a higher likelihood of delivering a dangerous cross for your striker to attack.
Crossing Speed has been slightly reduced to allow for defenders to better react to crosses and clear them more often. You will notice that crosses will come in slower and with more height to create a better gameplay balance in matches. Your players’ Crossing attribute will also play a role in the speed of your crosses. This adjustment to speed will affect both Regular Crosses and Low Crosses.
PLAYER MOVEMENT
When jumping into a match after the latest update, you will notice that your players' movement may feel smoother and more responsive, both with and without the ball. This is due to a number of improvements:
Faster Jogging Dribble Speed means that your players have a higher speed when not sprinting, leading to a more agile feeling on the ball and less sluggishness in general. Your players will feel more fluid on the ball, allowing them to beat a defender or step into a shot with more ease than before.
Dynamic Sprint Dribble means that your players will push the ball further ahead on the first few touches to get up to high speed, after which they will return to shorter interval touches for tighter control. The first touches will kick the ball further forward, allowing your player to be more explosive, while consecutive touches will keep the ball closer, to ensure responsiveness and control.
New Deceleration Curve means that every player in motion without the ball can now slow down faster and react to the play happening around them. This reduces the likelihood of players getting stuck backpedaling and ball-watching as often as before, meaning they are more reactive when changing direction. You will notice fewer stagnant players across the pitch, especially when defending crosses in the box, marking midfielders from box to box, or when going on attacking runs.
OTHER IMPROVEMENTS
While the main focus of the April Gameplay Update is around Player Movement, Passing, and Crossing, there are many other impactful improvements coming to EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile:
Auto Switch Move Assist
We have improved certain move assist situations so that your defending players in air ball situations will better mark nearby attacking players. This means that while you are being switched players automatically or unexpectedly (in auto or semi settings) during an air ball situation, the switched player will continue to move towards their marked attacker as a way to make it an assisted switch until you fully come into control of the player you chose.
Skippable Goal and Offsides Replays
You can now skip both Goals and Offside Replays in Head to Head matches so that you can get back to the action faster.
New Replay Camera Angles
We have added two new Replay Camera Angles so you can relive those big moments with even more excitement.
VS Attack Basic Chances
We have adjusted all VS Attack Basic Chances to be more challenging and better reflect the difference in Chances across VS Attack matches.
Manager Mode Shot Power
We have adjusted the shot power and speed in Manager Mode matches to better reflect attributes and produce more realistic shots.
Substitutions Menu
You can now access your substitutions directly from the menu, helping you make those important decisions faster without missing any of the on-field action.
ADDITIONAL IMPROVEMENTS
- Addressed an issue where some players would not jump or jump too early in two player header situations.
- Addressed an issue where headed passes would be looping up. Headed passing trajectories are now lower and more effective.
- Addressed an issue of the Free Kick camera not resetting after a shot or pass made contact with an opposing player.
- Addressed an issue of Gesture Passes overshooting on deep Free Kicks or Goal Kick.
- Addressed an issue of the Set Piece Camera preference not being saved for Corner Kicks, deep Free Kicks and Goal Kicks.
