Fellowship Month - Foundations of the Fellowship!
Dhe nathlof hi / Greetings Ring-bearers,
Crucial to the story of The Lord of the Rings is not just the journey, but the fellowship and the friendships forged on this epic journey. This July we’ll be putting an iconic duo front and center along with an iconic and powerful friend… Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf the Grey.
Design perspective on the Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf the Grey:
The beauty of the Fellowship lies in the unique skills and personalities that each member brings to the group. With a bond forged through shared purpose, they work together to overcome their differences and become more than the sum of their parts. To that end, we designed the Fellowship squad to focus on gameplay that allows them to bring each other up, protect one another, and to bravely take on even the most perilous situations.
"He was as tall as a young tree, lithe, immensely strong, able swiftly to draw a great war-bow and shoot down a Nazgûl, endowed with the tremendous vitality of Elvish bodies, so hard and resistant to hurt that he went only in light shoes over rock or through snow, the most tireless of all the Fellowship." - J.R.R. Tolkien on Legolas.
Legolas, Prince of Mirkwood, volunteered to accompany Frodo on the perilous journey to destroy the One Ring. Representing elf-folk, Legolas was crucial with his keen senses and scouting ability, as well as excellent bowmanship. Despite the differences between their peoples, Legolas became firm friends with Gimli the Dwarf which lasted till the end of their time in Middle-earth.
“Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.” - Gimli, The Fellowship of the Ring.
Gimli, son of Glóin, Dwarf of the House of Durin. Armed with his trusty axes, Gimli volunteered to accompany the Fellowship to Mordor to destroy the One Ring. A proud, strong warrior and axe wielder, he fought side-by-side with Legolas and other members of the Fellowship against Sauron’s forces. He also forged a friendship so enduring he became the first Dwarf to enter the Undying Lands alongside Legolas.
“I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udûn. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass.” - Gandalf, The Fellowship of the Ring.
The Istari (wizard) responsible for bringing together the Fellowship and leading the charge against the darkness of Sauron is none other than Gandalf the Grey. An immensely powerful being and loyal friend, Gandalf the Grey will be coming to The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth™!
Kit details and how to obtain Legolas and Gimli are out now! Meanwhile, Gandalf the Grey’s character kit is coming soon!
We hope you’re as excited to see some of the Fellowship of the Ring as much as we are, and can’t wait to see what adventures await!
