Gondor Month - Allies from the White Tower!

Dhe nathlof hi / Greetings Ring-bearers,

Gondor, the famous kingdom and stronghold of Middle-earth. A beautiful and prosperous city for much of its time, Gondor has faced periods of hardship through the history of Middle-earth. As we know from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, their last king was thought lost and all rightful heirs and lines considered ended. Through this time a number of Stewards, stemming from the earliest high councilors to the Kings of Gondor, ruled over Gondor. Swearing an oath that when the true king would appear, they would give rule of the kingdom back to that King.

The most known of these Stewards is Denethor II, the last Steward of Gondor. Alongside his sons, Boromir and Faramir, this family trio makes for a powerful squad, coming to the game this September.

“Denethor was a proud man, tall, valiant, and more kingly than any man that had appeared in Gondor for many lives of men; and he was wise also, and far-sighted, and learned in lore.... When Denethor became Steward he proved a masterful lord, holding the rule of all things in his own hand. He said little. He listened to counsel, and then followed his own mind.” - The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A.

Leader and commander of the army of Gondor, Denethor II is the descendant of a great house of Stewards. Sworn protectors and rulers of Gondor, until the rightful King returns. Denethor II is a proud and powerful man, who has kept the Mordor force behind their borders for a long time. His sons, Boromir and Faramir are all that remains of his family however he favors one son more than the other.

"He was cloaked and booted as if for a journey on horseback; and indeed though his garments were rich, and his cloak was lined with fur, they were stained with long travel. He had a collar of silver in which a single white stone was set; his locks were shorn about his shoulders. On a baldric he wore a great horn tipped with silver that now was laid upon his knees. He gazed at Frodo and Bilbo with sudden wonder." - The Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring..

When we first meet Boromir, before the adventures of Fellowship of the Ring, he is a Captain of the Gondorian army, experienced in battle and was famous for helping lead the defense of Osgiliath in the face of unfavorable odds. He inspired the men he led and embodied all that was expected of a brave warrior. Despite their father’s favoritism, he was very close with his younger brother Faramir.

“Here was one with an air of high nobility such as Aragorn at times revealed, less high perhaps, yet also less incalculable and remote: one of the Kings of Men born into a later time, but touched with the wisdom and sadness of the Eldar Race. He [Pippin] knew now why Beregond spoke his name with love. He was a captain that men would follow, that he would follow, even under the shadow of the black wings.” - The Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King..

Captain of the Rangers of Ithilien, Faramir is as brave and skilled as his older brother, Boromir. He even fought side-by-side with his brother at Osgiliath and successfully repelled Sauron’s forces back from the city. The brothers were noted for their similar physical appearance, however their personalities differed. While Denethor II favored Boromir over Faramir, the brothers were always there for one another.

Shortly, players will be able to check out the character kits for Denethor II, Boromir and Faramir, along with their Adventure details. Make sure you check out their kits and other details in The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth™!
