The Lord of Moria’s Month!

Dhe nathlof hi / Greetings Ring-bearers,

In The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth™ we have always intended to explore the ‘what ifs’ of the Lord of the Rings lore. In our first exploration we ask the question, what if Balin’s expedition to retake Moria hadn’t failed and he instead restored Moria to a glorious Dwarven kingdom?

Due to our Ring of Power being forged, multiple realities have been shattered and awoken. In some of these, we have seen our Shadowy Figure sowing chaos, attempting to break the fabric of Middle-earth. However, Eärendil has found a story where, through good deeds and selflessness, the story of Middle-earth has culminated into pure, greater Heroes of the land.

In this alternate timeline, Balin’s troop instead crosses through Lórien, the Elven realm of Celeborn and Galadriel, on their expedition to reclaim Moria. There they make the choice to assist the Lórien elves by fighting Orcs that would seek to encroach upon the woodland realm. This leads to a cascade of events that culminates in that fateful moment for Balin at the Mirrormere. Using your Ring of Power, follow along with Balin as he makes this small choice that will forever change his fate.

“It seems to be a record of the fortunes of Balin's folk,' [Gandalf] said. 'I guess that it began with their coming to Dimrill Dale nigh on thirty years ago.... Listen to this! 'We drove out orcs from the great gate and guard room — we slew many in the bright sun in the dale… We have taken the twentyfirst hall of North end to dwell in… Balin has set up his seat in the Chamber of Mazarbul.'” - The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring.

Lord Balin might have claimed his throne in Moria in this timeline, but that doesn’t mean his conflicts are over. Having to battle through Orcs and other deep-dwelling denizens of Moria, he leads his people on and ensures their survival.

“They were clad in shadowy-grey, and could not be seen among the tree-stems, unless they moved suddenly.” - The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring.

Little is known about the Silvan brothers of Lothlórien, however along with their sibling Haldir they guarded the border of Lórien. Armed with gifts of a Dwarven Shield and a pair of legendary Dwarven Axes, these siblings are as fearsome alongside their Dwarf allies as they are fighting beside their own kin.
