MODSHOP Q & A

Need For Speed™ No Limits Lil Wayne Update

With our latest update we are proud to present to you Modshop 2.0. This is the first phase in our commitment to expand the ways you, the player, can express yourself by customizing your ride.

We sat down with the Need for Speed No Limits dev team to talk about what players can expect this update and in the near future.

QUESTION: So this update kicks off the newest Modshop revamp?

NFSNL Dev Team: Yes. Modshop 2.0. It's really exciting for players to see what we've done. It’s been a while since we've actually been able to look into the customization realm.

As we worked on revamping the Modshop and adding new customizations, we were cluttering the interface with nodes. We didn't want the interface to be unusable, so we had to sit back and think “Okay, how do we actually change the layout for these future customizations?”

QUESTION: What can players expect once they download this update?

NFSNL Dev Team: So what you will get in this update is the actual interface update, just to be the foundation for all future updates, much like the campaign in which we made a whole visual change and then we followed that up with adding campaign elements to new chapters and characters and cars and stuff like that. We're doing the same with Modshop, creating a new visual to the Modshop part of the game itself.

When you first launch the game and go into Modshop, you'll notice right away that the interface is different so we've split it up to make it a little bit more accessible.

We've got parts, paint, wraps and stance. Stances is one of the things that we wanted to deliver alongside the visual change, we didn't want to just do a visual change and that was it.

QUESTION: How does the new interface work?

NFSNL Dev Team: You'll notice that we've done away with the node system. So the idea is that we wanted to create a list for players to use to customize their rides. With this list we can bring up all of the different types of parts, and this list will be dynamic and we'll be able to add new part customizations in the future, which is really exciting as we're looking into new stuff right now.

So within the list, for example, if you scroll down and you want to change the spoiler, you click spoiler and the camera will pivot around to the rear of the car. You can still slightly pivot the camera. Double tap takes you into the full view mode. Or you can hit the icon down in the bottom right to jump into that as well, and now you will see the vertical scroll list on the right, which is really awesome that you can just kind of scroll along to see each different spoiler being applied as you scroll.

QUESTION: What does this mean for body kit customization?

NFSNL Dev Team: Another new option that you will see is we've actually broken down the body kits. So while the body itself is looking at the underlying arches on the wheels there is future opportunity for us to actually change body shapes of cars and add new changes to the actual body itself, while keeping the spoilers, skirts, front bumper and rear bumpers separate. This means that in the future you can mix and match between different body styles as well, so you're not forced into a full kit, you're actually able to put the car together as you see fit.

You'll also see that things are in the list that aren't compatible, they will be greyed out to indicate they aren’t applicable. You can actually go back to, for example, the wheel arch section, change it, find something that is compatible and then, when you jump back into the front bumper you can actually see different parts will be compatible. There's a lot of freedom now with mixing and matching parts.

QUESTION: What else can players jump in and play around with in this update?

NFSNL Dev Team: On the paint side of things, it's pretty self explanatory. There are a lot of different paints, the UI has changed but everything else is similar. Players will see in the list all of the different paint schemes: metallic, matt and chrome. You can use the arrows at the top to jump between them, it also indicates how many choices you've unlocked that you're able to apply.

And something really cool we've added is the new stance option. Now players can actually adjust the front, change the height for the front and rear as well. For example, you can actually lower the front of the car alone, or the ear can lower independently as well. It's just a visual application at this point in time. We didn't want to mess with the driving system or anything too much. We didn't want to make it so that you had to come in and do this for performance reasons We want people to be able to choose pretty much how they want their car to look, but still have the same competitive advantage as they would in any other case.

QUESTION: Sounds like some really exciting new changes!

NFSNL Dev Team: As we continue to update the game, we will continue to evolve and add to the Modshop. This is phase one. We are investigating and building several new options for players to customize their cars. Our first focus is to make sure as many cars are customizable as possible including around an additional 60 cars that are actually going to be able to be customized in the garage in the near future. Where previously there was only a limited amount of cars you could customize. We're actually expanding that quite a bit which is really exciting.
