Highlights from the last round (Final 16):
- The Battle of Pennsylvania: For the second year in a row, Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin has been defeated by a Philadelphia Flyers player. Last year, Malkin lost to NHL 13 Cover Athlete Claude Giroux in the semifinals. This year, Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds unseeded Malkin.
- As Close as they Come: less than 100 votes separated Edmonton's Taylor Hall and his opponent Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche.
- Two Maple Leafs Advance against Original SixTMRivals: strong Game Six performances from Joffrey Lupul and James van Riemsdyk helped push both players over their opponents, P.K. Subban and Tyler Seguin, respectively.
- Lucky Sevens: Every higher seeded player advanced with the exception of the #2 seed. Both P.K. Subban and Evgeni Malkin who entered the round with strong support from the previous round would eventually lose to #7 seeds.
