• Le Mans Spotlight: Corvette Racing

Just in time for 2016’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Corvette C7.R is making its debut in Real Racing 3. A highly-successful endurance racing champ, will it be able to win for a second year in a row?

First unveiled in 2014, the Corvette C7.R is the successor to the Corvette C6.R and Corvette C5-R, both champion endurance racers. With a burly Xtrac 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox and an aluminum-intensive C7 chassis, which provides a higher level of chassis stiffness leading to better handling, the C7.R first sped to victory at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. It also won two North American Endurance Cup races that year, Daytona’s 53rd Rolex 24 and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours at Sebring.

The Corvette C7.R was developed as a partnership between Chevrolet and Pratt & Miller. Based out of New Hudson, MI, Pratt & Miller have been one of General Motors’ official racing teams since 1999. They’re primarily responsible for the engineering, construction, maintenance, and leadership of Corvette Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSC).

While still running a LS5.R 5.5L naturally aspirated V8 engine, the 2016 Corvette C7.R has been given even more aerodynamic modifications to further improve downforce and handling. Both larger rocker skirts, and a larger splitter have been implemented, as well as a new 3-D diffuser. These improvements have already paid dividends because in 2016, it again won the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours, and is currently leading the GT Le Mans category in the IMSA WTSC.

The drivers at the wheel as the Corvette C7.R rolls into the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans are the same trio who drove it to victory last year: Oliver Gavin (five Le Mans Class Wins with Corvette Racing), Tommy Milner (two Le Mans Class wins with Corvette Racing), and Jordan Taylor. This is a team and a car to keep your eyes on during endurance racing's toughest test – the Corvette C7.R is Le Mans entrant number 64 for 2016.
