It’s been almost 11 years since The Sims FreePlay has been part of The Sims franchise on mobile, and we’re excited about our bright future ahead. You might have heard the huge content and new features we revealed - some that's available now and others coming in just a few weeks’ time for players of all levels to look forward to. There has never been a better time to be a FreePlay Simmer!

Sim Improvements
We see your feedback about how our Sims look every day! In our special 10th Birthday SimGuru Interviews last year, we chatted about how we’re unable to add more Sim customizations on the existing heads or bodies, due to technical limitations of Sims that were created for 2011 phone specs. They currently use mesh and textures and have over 10 years of content we’d have to go back and manually fix!
So, the research began. The team have been investigating ways that we could improve our Sims appearances; if we were going to commit to it, we would want to do it authentically and meaningfully.
We worked with internal resource groups and prominent community members like our EA Creators to get feedback as we worked to update our existing heads to a new visual target that matches expectations of a game made in 2022 and closer to The Sims 4, while still suiting The Sims FreePlay art style. The implementation has taken over 6 months and touched every discipline in the team!
This update, we’ve improved the appearances of Preteen (child), Teenager, Adult and Elderly Sims! The changes have enabled us to add eyelashes and tongues to the new faces, plus more diverse customization options in the future.
Plus, we’ve made all 500+ hairstyles, earrings and glasses gender-neutral! We believe that gender neutrality plays a very important role in building a fully inclusive society and know that we have a long roadmap of improvements ahead. The latest refresh of our Sims faces and making hair and accessories gender-neutral is just the first step. We’re continuing to work on more face types and skin tones in future updates.

Faces of FreePlay Competition
When: November 1-8, 2022
Overview: Every Simmer makes The Sims! How have the new Sim improvements made it easier for you to create Sims that look like you? Show us your Sims’ new look and the ways you’ve used the shared hair, glasses and earrings with your styling.
Prizes: Five winners will be picked at random, with the chance to be part of history and be one of the Faces of FreePlay! You could be featured in one social post on The Sims FreePlay official channels during our December & January updates.
Criteria:
- Pick your favorite Sim and give them a makeover by using a Wardrobe. It's completely optional to use any of the gender-neutral hair, glasses or earrings that are now available.
- Use the in-game screenshot tool to capture your hard work!
- Tell us a story about your Sim and why they’re special to you, and post your reveal as many times as you like on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook during the dates above and tag @TheSimsFreePlay with #FacesofFreePlay
Winners will be notified via the social media platform they posted on by SimGuruAlana on November 11.

Superyachts
In our video segment, we also revealed SimGuruMegz and SimGuruAlana standing on the top floor of a lavish 3-story superyacht called ‘The Bella’! You continue to inspire us with your building creations, and we know you’ve been asking for more lots to build on (so you don’t have to demolish your current homes)!
Fulfil your dreams of living on water, with the new feature set to launch January 2023. It will allow your Sims to build and live on a new houseboat style residential lot, right on the waters of SimTown! Inspired by the Downtown Developer events, you’ll need to complete the tasks within the 30-day time limit to receive the glamorous template, complete with exclusive aspirational styling, spiral staircases, rooftop hot tub - don’t forget that ocean view!
Make sure you’ve reached Player Level 40 and completed the ‘Multistory Renovations’ Quest to access the Superyachts event when it releases.
‘Christmas is in the Heir’ Seasonal Quest
In our final reveal in the ‘Behind The Sims’ Summit, we showcased a breathtaking winter cabin in the woods, which is the grand prize in our brand-new story for our annual Christmas Quest, that we know you’ve come to know and love every year.
This December, progress through the 13-day quest to unlock a cozy, multi-storey winter cabin, located on one of the most picturesque snowy lots the team has ever created, called Santa’s Cabin. Complete with snowy river, bonfire, balcony hot tub and giant pine trees along the horizon, the rustic retreat is filled with natural elements of timber log decor. Your Sims will love the luxury bathroom that overlooks the view, fireplace and chimney, staircase with mezzanine and Christmas decorations from floor to ceiling!
