The Superfight is upon us! UFC 226 is set for July 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring a main event that pits two champions against one another for the first time in the promotion's history. Light Heavyweight champion Daniel “DC” Cormier is looking to become a simultaneous two-division champ when he takes on Heavyweight king Stipe Miocic in a clash for the ages. EA SPORTS UFC 3 simulated the fight to determine who makes history at the biggest event of the summer, and you can see the results below!
As Daniel Cormier looks to become a two-division UFC champion, Stipe Miocic is coming off a record-breaking third straight defense of the UFC Heavyweight belt. Both of these men will be looking to deliver incredible accomplishments in a matchup of two of the most skilled UFC superstars on the roster. Just take a look at how close they are in game:
Daniel Cormier: Striking 87, Grappling 92, Stamina 93, and Health 91
Stipe Miocic: Striking 92, Grappling 89, Stamina 91, and Health 91
This is a very close matchup, with each fighter holding a notable advantage over the other. While Stipe has the striking advantage, Cormier brings Olympic-level wrestling to the table, and both enter the Octagon with legendary reputations for toughness. The winner will be the fighter who controls the pace and where the fight goes, utilizing their strengths and taking advantage of their opponent's weaknesses. So, how exactly does that look in UFC 3?
Round one sees both champs attempting to implement their gameplan, as Stipe looks to establish striking distance while DC tries to take the fight to the ground. Stipe manages to land a big overhand right, which Cormier absorbs with his granite-like chin. After weathering the big blow, DC goes for a low single-leg takedown; however, it is not enough to take the Heavyweight king down, as Stipe stuffs him and gets right back to a striking stance. The two trade shots until the horn sounds for the end of the first round.
At the start of round two, DC comes out strong with an overhand right of his own, which Stipe counters. As the Heavyweight champ tries to kick Cormier's leg, DC manages to land the takedown he wanted earlier. While he gets Stipe to the canvas, DC is unable to keep him there, and the fighters return to their feet. In typical Cormier fashion, he puts relentless pressure on Stipe, picking him up in the air and slamming him down for yet another takedown. As the second round comes to a close, Cormier is starting to take over.
Stipe decides in Round 3 that he cannot allow Cormier to take control any further and comes flying out of the gate with a barrage of boxing combinations. Amidst the furious exchange, Stipe catches DC with a vicious right uppercut, sending the Light Heavyweight champ crashing down. Stipe pounces on his downed opponent with a diving punch that finishes the fight, earning him his fourth straight defense of the Heavyweight belt!
