EA SPORTS UFC 5 Celebrates Its First Anniversary

A look back at key moments and milestones

EA SPORTS™ UFC 5 was released one year ago, and to celebrate the occasion, we wanted to look back at some of the key moments and milestones that elevated the game to its current state. To celebrate, all players who log into the game between October 25th and October 28th will receive a 2X Online Career XP multiplier and unlock in the in-game store for free Sean O’Malley (Dana White’s Contender Series) and Alex Pereira (Origins) Alter Egos - two of the first Alter Egos available*.

The number one reason for the ongoing success of UFC 5 is you, the community. So let’s look at the major milestones you achieved:

31.5 Billion Strikes Landed - That’s a lot of jabs, crosses, knees, elbows, and ground and pound you landed! 31.5 Billion strikes found a home across all of the gameplay modes in UFC 5.

581.5 Million FIghts - You fought in so many scraps! 581.5 Million fights in one year?! That’s a lot of time spent in the Octagon.

6.1 Million Fighters Created - There are some truly talented and creative players out there to create so many great and not-so-great-looking fighters. Part of connecting to UFC 5 was being part of the story, creating your fighter, developing your fighting style, and building your legacy on the way to becoming a UFC Champion.

70 New Rostered Fighters Added - When UFC 5 was released one year ago, you made your voices heard and one of the things you were most vocal about was that you wanted more current fighters added to the game. We listened and in April we announced the single biggest roster update to the EA SPORTS UFC series in the shortest amount of time with over 30 additional rostered fighters being added between then and June of this year. Since then, we’ve consistently released additional rostered fighters to bring the updated roster total to 70 new rostered fighters and counting, including the two additional fighters added last week, Shara Magomedov and Matt Frevola. With those additions, the current roster count for UFC 5 is a whopping 314 unique rostered fighters in total, reaching 98% parity with the current UFC Top 10 rankings.

79 Alter Egos Added - New to UFC 5, Alter Egos allowed us to showcase notable UFC fighters in a whole new way. We pulled fighters from key moments of their careers and put a spotlight on why those moments matter so whether it’s Alex “Poaton” Pereira from his early kickboxing days with the in-game stats to match or Leon Edwards from UFC 278 and his legendary come from behind KO victory, Alter Egos continue to provide another way to look back at the history of MMA and now with the Community Votes Series be a part of it as well.

As of today, there are 478 total fighters, this includes Alter Egos and Rostered Fighters across multiple weight classes.

Top 5 Male and Female Rostered Fighters - Here are the top five rostered fighters that you’ve used the most.*

*Alter Egos were not part of the count for these rankings, only usages of the primary version of the rostered fighter were counted.

Top 5 Alter Egos - These are your Top 5 most downloaded Alter Egos in UFC 5:

1. Max Holloway|UFC 231| 2018

After dispatching Hall-of-Famer José Aldo to win the Featherweight belt, and then repeating the feat six months later to defend his new throne, Max “Blessed” Holloway continued on his roll of dominance. Taking on the durable and dangerous Brian Ortega, Holloway battered the challenger throughout four rounds before a doctor’s stoppage extended his win streak to thirteen.

2. Tony Ferguson|UFC 238|2019

After extending his win streak to twelve and leaving a trail of contenders in his wake, Tony Ferguson continued to loom large as the Boogeyman in the lightweight division. His win streak is considered by some as the greatest in lightweight division history.

3. Zhang Weili|UFC 300|2024

At UFC 300 Zhang Weili was put to the test. The champion decked out in her new custom red and gold Fight Kit took on fellow countrywomen and number one-ranked Women’s Strawweight Yan Xiaonan. Early on, Yan was game and was outstriking the noticeably smaller Zhang on the feet, bullying her with size and power and dropping her several times throughout the fight. Through it all, Zhang stayed patient and smart, knowing that her bigger opponent would not have the cardio to maintain the same type of power if she could take her down and make her tired by defending strikes and submissions. Zhang would take over late in several rounds by establishing a dominant ground game which would ultimately wear down her opponent and notch her the unanimous decision win.

4. Alex Pereira|Origins Series| 2017

Alex Pereira is familiar with the weight of a championship belt. Before he claimed the UFC Middleweight throne with frightening speed, he was the long-reigning Glory Kickboxing Middleweight Champion. In 2017, “Poatan” won the title he’d go on to defend five times before making his way to the Octagon.

5. Jose Aldo|UFC 179|2014

The King of Rio ran roughshod through the WEC while on his way to claiming the organization’s Featherweight belt. That freakish dominance continued into UFC, where José Aldo became the inaugural featherweight champion and defended the title a record seven times.
