Meet Our Summer Intern - Julia

Meet Julia, a Global Biddable Media Activation Intern, and learn how she's making an impact everyday

EA’s internship program provides great opportunities for students to start and grow their careers while cultivating their passions along the way. This summer, we welcomed our first-ever remote #intEArn class. Learn how Global Biddable Media Activation Intern, Julia, adjusted to this new work from home life.

Fast Facts:

  • Name: Julia Wezio
  • Title: Global Biddable Media Activation Intern
  • Major: Marketing
  • School: University of Texas at Austin

Describe yourself and your background.

I am a senior at UT Austin and a die-hard marketing geek. I’ve lived in Austin for 7 years where I love to go on adventures with my camera and friends. I’m also the Vice President of my college’s DECA chapter and an avid traveler. My favorite place to go is Poland, where I visit my friends and family nearly every summer.

What are you studying and why?

I am studying Marketing with a minor in Film & Entertainment Studies. I chose these fields because I feel like I get to be a part of the customer’s personal “success story.” It is incredible to watch a product go from an idea to something on a store shelf that will forever be a part of a person’s life.

What drew you to an internship at EA?

I’ve always been a gamer at heart. My first title ever was The Sims (yes, the original one!). Since then, gaming has been an outlet to express my creativity through storytelling. I’ve latched onto a few other titles such as Dragon Age, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, FIFA, and many more. EA’s diverse culture is also so open to learning and has some of the kindest, most accepting people in the world working for it!

How do you think this internship will help you on your career path?

I have always wanted to be a part of the gaming industry, and this has been the perfect opportunity to achieve that. I’ve had the opportunity to learn about multiple advertising platforms and work directly with large vendors like Google, Twitter, Snapchat, and many more. Likewise, I get to work with EA’s global media teams from around the world and learn multiple strategies and approaches as they bring each game title through the entire marketing funnel.

What team are you working with & what projects are you working on for us?

I work with the Biddable Team under Media Activation in the New York office. Currently, I’m working on building a Biddable Ad Library where I am working with all of our major social partners to develop a guide on how to purchase and utilize dozens of ad products. I am also creating a collaborative playbook on how EA can work with Reddit in the future and I am publishing a bi-weekly newsletter to distribute across Media globally.

What makes EA a unique place to intern?

I feel that EA has given me the opportunity to do things in an internship that some don’t have the chance to do in their entire career. You truly have the opportunity to become a part of the company. I feel more like a team member than an intern. Every team is wildly passionate about the titles they work on and genuinely feel excited to be a part of the player journey.

What was your reaction to EA’s call for a virtual internship following safety protocols for COVID-19? How have you leveraged some perks or benefits from this remote internship?

I was definitely sad to not experience EA’s culture in office, but I’ve had so many impactful moments along the way. Getting to go to work in sweatpants has been a great perk, and I have been able to get creative with my routine.

For example, I go on a walk after work every day to simulate a commute! I’ve also been able to speak to other Media teams in Guildford, San Francisco, and our headquarters in Redwood City over Zoom through 1:1 calls and learn about the hundreds of roles across the company.

We acknowledge that you are interning during an international conversation on systemic injustice, racism, and violence here in the United States. With that, it can be hard to bring yourself to work. What communities or conversations have you joined at EA to share your experiences or learn from others. Have you attended any events to further the conversation?

EA is truly a place that “walks the talk”. Inclusion is at the core of every team and we have not shied away from these big conversations, no matter how scary they can be to discuss. EA’s leadership and each manager I’ve worked with has respected my differences and encouraged me to be a part of these community-wide conversations. I’ve had the opportunity to attend many Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) events and Town Hall meetings across various topics to expand my knowledge.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I am the proud owner of every single The Sims 4 expansion and game pack.
