Meet Our Summer Intern - Leandro

Meet Experience Designer Intern, Leandro, and learn how he achieved one of his life’s goals by working at EA.

EA’s internship program provides great opportunities for students to start and grow their careers while cultivating their passions along the way. This summer, we welcomed our first-ever remote #intEArn class. Learn how Experience Designer Intern, Leandro, achieved one of his life’s goals by working at EA.

Fast Facts:

  • Name: Leandro Garrido
  • Title: Experience Designer Intern
  • Field of Study: Human Computer Interaction
  • School: Suny Oswego

Describe yourself and your background.

I’m a designer, a sports fan, and a video game enthusiast. I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Recently, I came to the United States to pursue a Master’s Degree. And I like to talk. A lot!

What are you studying and why?

Human Computer Interaction. My background is in Journalism/Digital Marketing. I wanted to dive more into the user/player experience and understand more about the design thinking concept.

What drew you to EA?

Video games were my first contact with the English language. I have played games since I was what, two-years-old? I don’t even remember. Games are an important part of my life and working with them was one of my life goals. I chose EA because of its representation and role in the industry.

How do you think this internship will help you on your career path?

I’m here to learn and meet new people. This will definitely give me a broader view of the video game industry and also understand all the processes of big projects. This is my first step on the field. I’m very excited!

What team are you working with? What project are you working on for us?

I’m on the Customer Experience team, working with the Solution Services and Insights teams. Currently, I’m working on two projects: an overview of the company’s customer journeys and a network tool for EA Help.

What makes EA a unique place to intern?

How easy it is to work with people. Everybody is nice, everybody wants to help and grow together. EA gives us everything we need to succeed and achieve our goals. Most importantly, EA has a voice that promotes equity, and that’s important for me. I’ve grown as a professional here and also as a person.

What was your reaction to EA’s call for a virtual internship following safety protocols for COVID-19? How have you leveraged some perks or benefits from this remote internship?

I was worried that it would be canceled, but when EA announced the virtual internship, I was relieved. I appreciate the fact that the company is taking care of the employees. And working from home is great, as long as you can keep a routine. Being able to adapt my schedule is definitely a great perk.

We acknowledge that you are interning during an international conversation on the systemic injustice, racism, and violence here in the United States. With that, it can be hard to bring yourself to work. What communities or conversations have you joined at EA to share your experiences or learn from others. Have you attended any events to further the conversation?

I’ve attended probably all of the conversations EA has held so far. I want to take action, learn, and help in any way I can. Every statement that the company made was inspiring and realistic. We need conversations like this everywhere. I’m very proud to work here.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?

I love playing, watching, and consuming everything football (soccer!) It’s one of my biggest passions. I’ve been to hundreds of matches and even traveled to watch Flamengo (the Rio de Janeiro team I support) play.
