Demetrious Johnson

When looking at the UFC’s Flyweight division, the first name that should come to mind is Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. Not only is the Kentucky native widely recognized as one of the quickest fighters on the planet, but after becoming the division’s inaugural champion in 2012, the belt has never left his waist. Currently on a six-fight undefeated streak, Mighty Mouse defended his title three times in 2013, and seems to only be improving with every bout.

Unquestionably one of the most dynamic and talented fighters in the UFC’s young Flyweight division, Joseph Benavidez was also nearly the organization inaugural Flyweight champion, dropping a narrow split decision to Demetrious Johnson in 2012. Since that time, Benavidez has gone on to win four of five bouts, with his only loss coming in a rematch with Johnson. Wasting little time before rebounding from the setback, Benavidez most recently earned his 20th career victory with a Performance of the Night submission win over Tim Elliott at UFC 172.

UFC Flyweight Tim Elliott is living proof that sometimes it can take a fighter a few bouts to hit their stride. After going 0-2-1 to begin his professional MMA career in 2009, Elliott proceeded to find his groove, getting an arm raised in 10 of his next 13 bouts. Capable of getting things done whenever the fight goes, four of Elliott’s 10 wins have come by way of submission, with another three coming via knockout. Elliott notably earned one of his knockout wins over former UFC champion Jens Pulver in December of 2011.

Most UFC fight fans will recognize Louis “Goodnight” Gaudinot from his stint on Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter as a member of Team Bisping. Riding a four-fight win streak in the lead up to TUF 14, Gaudinot made his official UFC debut against Johnny Beford in December of 2011 on the show’s season finale. Most recently posting a submission win over Phil Harris in London at UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Manuwa, the one-time UFC Fight of the Night winner will look to continue climbing the Flyweight ladder the next time he steps back inside the Octagon.

Scott Jorgensen

Possessing a well-rounded game and a knack for pushing the pace inside the Octagon, Jorgensen has gone toe-to-toe with some of best fighters on the planet including Urijah Faber, Dominick Cruz and Renan Barao. Following his sixth UFC bout, Jorgensen dropped down a weight class, making the move from Bantamweight to Flyweight.

Owner of one of the most unique nicknames in the UFC today, Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall has been fighting professionally since 2002. Making his Flyweight debut in 2011, McCall has already faced off against the divisions best, taking on Demetrious Johnson on two separate occasions, as well as Joseph Benavidez. After coming out on the wrong end of two consecutive unanimous decisions, McCall bounced back in style with a Fight of the Night win over Iliarde Santos at UFC 163 in Brazil.

Making his home in the UFC’s Flyweight division following TUF, Dodson didn’t waste any time establishing himself as the field’s No. 1 contender, rattling off three wins in four fights with only a single decision loss coming at the hands of Flyweight champ, Demitrious Johnson. Seeming to improve every time he steps into the Octagon, it’s likely that Dodson won’t have to wait too long before earning himself another shot at the title.

With a professional MMA career that spans over a decade, Darren Uyenoyama originally made his UFC debut as a Bantamweight in November of 2011 before finding a home in the organization’s Flyweight division following a win over Phil Harris. Boasting four wins by submission and one by knockout, Uyenoyama’s nickname “BC” is actually an abbreviation for Bone Crusher. After suffering back-to-back losses for the first time in his career to Joseph Benavidez and Alptekin Ozkilic, Uyenoyama will be looking to rebound with a win in his next bout.
