EA SPORTS Unveils New Features for NHL 12

With the Stanley Cup Playoffs heating up, EA is getting in on the action with the announcement of new features for EA SPORTS NHL 12, shipping on September 13th.

As the Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, and Tampa Bay Lightning battle it out to see who will bring home the Stanley Cup, EA SPORTS and the NHL franchise already have their eyes set on next season.

Although we’re enjoying every deke, check, hit, and game-winning goal of these playoffs, we’re just as excited to share some of the cool new features that you’ll soon see in NHL 12.

For starters, you’ll be able to experience the pursuit of greatness and legendary moments in your playing career in the revamped Be a Pro mode, as you strive to shatter historic NHL records. But greatness doesn’t come easy as you have to earn every shift on the ice, and the better you play, the more ice time you’ll get.

In addition to battling for time on the ice, one of the biggest highlights for NHL 12 is the Full Contact Physics Engine where everything is interactive and in play. We’re talking shattered glass, flying helmets, and bone-crushing hits, along with knocking players over the boards and into the bench.

Even the netminders are getting into the fray.

NHL 12 will mark the first time you’ll face dynamic goalies in the game. As you crash the crease you can now knock the net off and make contact with the goalie, knocking him down or out of position. Goalies will even battle through screens to make awe-inspiring saves. Best of all, when the action gets heated, goalies can now send a message by leaving the net, dropping the gloves, and trading punches with rivals during fights.

If fighting’s not your thing, perhaps playing outdoors in a football stadium is.

That’s right, you can now lace up outdoors and play under the lights and snowfall in one of the biggest hockey events of the season, the 2011 NHL Winter Classic® at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

This is just a sneak peek of what’s to come in NHL 12. Stay tuned in the coming months for more news on the franchise, as well as the EA SPORTS Hockey League and Hockey Ultimate Team. To get in on the action now visit www.easports.com/nhl to pre-order your copy of NHL 12.
