Long Live The Prince
Kiyan Prince returns to the pitch on the 15th anniversary of his tragic death
FIFA 21
May 18, 2021
Kiyan Prince played for the Queens Park Rangers Under-16s Football Team, a star in the making nicknamed ‘The Bullet’ because of his speed and natural ability on the pitch. Kiyan was known all around North West London for his obvious football talent, but also his character and positive energy for all the people he crossed paths with. It was this character - always quick to stand up and support others - that led to him defending a friend being picked on outside his school gates at the London Academy in Edgware on May 18th 2006. Stepping in to help his friend and resolve the situation peacefully, tragically the situation escalated and Kiyan was stabbed in the chest by the aggressor, heartbreakingly losing his life at only 15 years old.
In 2008, The Kiyan Prince Foundation was set up in his memory. Founded by Kiyan’s father Dr Mark Prince OBE - the foundation is committed to supporting school children and young people from primary through to secondary and tertiary education, through mentoring, life skills and training programmes. In 2019, QPR’s stadium Loftus Road was renamed the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium in Kiyan’s honour.
Now in 2021, we are bringing Kiyan into the game he would have inevitably made it into - something he and friends always joked about him doing one day. At 30, Kiyan would now be in his prime as a striker - with years of mastering his craft at the top level taking him to what should have been his dazzling best. To honour his talent and potential, the Prince is making his bow in the Queens Park Rangers squad in FIFA 21 across Kick-Off and Career Mode for people to embrace his legacy and to see the true breadth of his gifts. Taking advantage of the Frostbite engine and working directly with his father, EA SPORTS FIFA built a likeness of Kiyan using imagery of him at 15 and images of his father aged 30 - fused together to create an accurate portrait of what Kiyan would look like today, the player we would have seen on our TV screens. From there, Kiyan’s stats were built out in collaboration with his dad, his coaches, teammates and friends to help build out his style of play - working off of personal accounts from former teammates and rivals to get precise about Kiyan’s unique balance of speed, skill and pure striker’s instinct to integrate him into the game as faithfully as possible - developing Kiyan as the superstar he would’ve become.
Available from May 18th on PC and Stadia, and later this month on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Kiyan will be available to play as, within Kick-Off and Career Mode as a QPR player in FIFA 21.
FIFA 21 Ultimate Team players will also be able to unlock Kiyan Prince vanity items by completing in-game objectives - including a Kiyan Prince Foundation Kit inspired by the 04/05 QPR home kit, and an honorary TIFO of Kiyan, enabling you to honour his talent on the pitch.
Kiyan Josiah Prince. Gone but never forgotten. Now available to play as in FIFA 21.
