Player Ratings Update: Week 14
See how huge performances from stars like Cam Akers and Jalen Hurts have affected their Madden ratings.
Madden NFL 21
Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson duked it out in a Monday night thriller, Derrick Henry bounced back in a big way, and Aaron Rodgers stayed red hot in Week 14 of NFL action.
Of course epic runs, crazy catches, and incredible plays abounded all over the league. And the Madden Ratings Adjustor team is working hard to tweak, refine, and polish ratings across the league based on real-world performances. Let’s take a look and see who’s up in the ranks and who’s down. Access the full Madden NFL 21 Player Ratings Database HERE.
Week 14: Who’s Up
Jalen Hurts | QB | Philadelphia Eagles
In the first start of his NFL career, rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts led his team in an upset victory over the New Orleans Saints. Hurts excelled on the ground, rushing for 106 yards on 18 attempts and added 17 completions for 167 pass yards and a touchdown through the air with no interceptions. Not bad, considering the Eagles struggles this season. Hurts is clearly a dual-threat signal caller, and we should see more of him in Week 15. The Madden Ratings Adjustor team will certainly be watching.
Cam Akers | RB | Los Angeles Rams
While we’re on the topic of rookies, Cam Akers absolutely dominated on the ground on Thursday night in a win over the Patriots. Akers rushed 29 times for 171 yards and added three catches for 23 yards. Fantasy football managers are probably wishing this breakout came earlier in the season, but here we are; Rams fans are not complaining. Rightly so, the Madden Ratings Adjustor team is boosting Akers’ Awareness, Carrying, and Ball Carrier Vision ratings resulting in a +2 OVR ahead of Week 15.
Curtis Samuel | WR | Carolina Panthers
The Panthers didn’t get a win on Sunday, but Curtis Samuel remained a consistent part of the team’s pass attack. He hauled in seven of his nine targets in the game and added 22 rush yards. Samuel’s high-volume teammates D.J. Moore and Christian McCaffrey were both out, and Samuel proved to be a reliable option in their absence. While he hasn’t done anything too flashy this year, save for a big Week 9 game, Samuel has been a consistent producer with at least 68 yards or more in each of his last three outings. That’s enough for the Madden Ratings Adjustor team to increase his OVR to 82 ahead of Week 15.
Week 14: Who’s Down
James Conner | RB | Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers run game has been mediocre at best in recent weeks, and James Conner struggled to get anything going in a loss on Sunday to the Bills. Sure, it was a tough matchup but 18 yards on 10 carries is about as bad as it gets. In fact, Conner has eclipsed the 50 yards rushing mark just once in his last five outings. Due to his lack of production, the Madden Ratings Adjustor team is bumping his OVR down a bit ahead of Week 15.
Cam Newton | QB | New England Patriots
Cam Newton did not play well in a 24-3 loss against the Rams last Thursday night. In fact, Newton hasn’t played very well at all over his last few games. He’s gone over 120 pass yards just once in his last five contests, and has averaged just 90.6 pass yards per game over his last three, with one touchdown pass and three picks. It sounds like the Patriots are sticking with Cam under center in Week 15, but the Madden Ratings Adjustor team will be decreasing his OVR.
