My Wedding Stories’ Inside Look at Creator’s Builds

You Make The Sims™ featuring icemunmun and CatherineGamesYT

Our players make The Sims™ every day. They play to express their individualities, interests and aspirations. They inspire us to keep innovating and improving. They’re creators in every sense of the word.

For The Sims 4 My Wedding Stories Game Pack, we teamed up with community creators icemunmun, CatherineGamesYT, HeyHarrie and Simlicy to create lots that represent our global community and to share how they would celebrate partnership, love and the thrill of creating the perfect wedding experience for their Sims.

We sat down with icemunmun and CatherineGamesYT, creators of the “Garden Palace of Vows” and “Centurial Harmony Garden,” respectively, to learn about their relationship with The Sims, what inspires them, the elements of their creations, and much more.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

icemunmun: I am MunMun Chattopadhyay, a 36-year-old medical doctor from Kolkata, India.

CatherineGamesYT: I’m Catherine. I grew up in Canada, but I currently live in Taiwan. Aside from creating content, I also work in the tech industry.

We are very excited to work with you both on different lots for the new My Wedding Stories GP. Explain to us what it is that you created for My Wedding Stories?

icemunmun: I built a community lot which is a modern and casual lounge with fantastic views for all your pre-wedding parties as well as a quiet wedding lunch/dinner reception. It is suited for both formal events as well as more laid back affairs. It has a quiet indoor space with an entertainment area, a patio dining experience overlooking the beautiful water, and a rooftop dance-cum-bar area to be footloose and fancy free!

I also built a simple starter home nestled in the countryside with a view of the gorgeous falls. With its whitewashed walls and terracotta roof, it is ideally suited for a young family who wants to settle down far from the madding crowd.

Finally, I built a wedding venue where you can throw your big fat Indian wedding. It is an old royal fort on the banks of a river which has been repurposed as a wedding venue. It features extensive grounds for your festivities, a mandap for the wedding ceremony, a podium for the bride and groom to receive guests, a large kitchen for preparing delicious food, and a luxurious bridal suite!

CatherineGamesYT: I built a Mediterranean-inspired Starter, a Mediterranean-inspired home, and the Centurial Harmony Garden.

For the starter, since it was located on an island, I went for a more relaxing seaside vibe, and used colors inspired by the natural surroundings: blue symbolizes the sea, and yellow/orange symbolizes the sunset. I can’t wait to see what kind of Sims would move into this house!

As for the Mediterranean-inspired home, it’s surrounded by lush greenery and dreamy lavenders. It has a laid-back pastoral vibe to it, embracing indoor-outdoor living to bring nature inside. It also has a backyard wedding space.

What is special about the wedding venue that you created?

icemunmun: The wedding venue I created is based on the numerous old royal forts scattered throughout India. These venues are often rented out for social events, including weddings. Because of their vast spaces and the old world charm associated with the buildings, people love to celebrate their special day in one of these repurposed forts. But they are understandably very expensive and are often only within the reach of the rich and famous. I wanted to capture the essence of the experience and bring it into The Sims 4 for everybody to enjoy. After all what is The Sims but wish fulfillment!

CatherineGamesYT: The Centurial Harmony Garden wedding venue I created features a lotus pond water garden with an arched bridge leading to the main wedding banquet hall. At the lobby, there’s a reception table to receive red envelopes, which is a tradition for the guests to give to the newlyweds as a blessing. There’s also a picture space with a backdrop and flowers in the lobby, because usually when the wedding reception is over, the bride and groom will stand there and say goodbye and take pictures with the guests.

The main banquet hall features a stage for wedding ceremonies or party games, and it also has a bride’s changing room in the back. On the upper floor of the banquet hall there’s a multifunction suite for the bride/groom’s family to rest. And at the other side of the garden near the entrance, there’s a place to hang around, enjoy tea, or have a drink and throw an after party at the semi-outdoor bar on the second floor.

Very cool! Can you let us know what you are hoping gamers take away from this content you created?

icemunmun: I am hoping to give Simmers from all over the world a small glimpse into the world of Indian wedding celebrations. Weddings, and the associated celebrations, are a big part of our culture. It is often a multi-day affair, and a wedding venue is expected to cater to all kinds of events and celebrations, from the pre-wedding events like mehendi and sangeet, to the actual wedding ceremony itself. It is full of color, laughter, music and food. I wanted to provide a small window into this wonderful world.

I am also hoping that Simmers who identify themselves with the Indian culture and way of life get to experience something familiar and joyful in the game.

CatherineGamesYT: During my upbringing, I learned to respect and appreciate the beauty of different cultures. So in my creations, there are often traces of inspiration merged from different cultures, and I believe all of them can be in harmony together.

I hope, through my creations, people will be able to find the beauty and connection of different cultures, be introduced to the wedding traditions and architectural elements of different cultures, and last but not least, I hope players will have fun with these builds.

When did you begin playing The Sims?

icemunmun: The Sims had a unique appeal to me. Here I was slogging away at medical school, wondering what I was doing with my life. But as soon as I booted up the game, I was in a whole new world. I could do whatever I wanted with the characters I created, could follow whatever hobby and career I wanted, live in whichever house I wanted, wear whatever I wanted! Then I discovered custom content and there was no looking back. I kept coming back for more and was eventually so immersed in the game that I couldn’t imagine a world where I couldn’t play The Sims.

CatherineGamesYT: I was first introduced to The Sims by my sister when I was a kid. She bought The Sims 1 bundle on sale and we instantly fell in love with the game. She would create the characters, and I would build and decorate the houses, then we would figure out all sorts of crazy stories and play it in the game. For me the unlimited potential and creativity we can express through The Sims is fascinating, an inspiring feature that cannot be easily found elsewhere.

We totally agree! How would you define the content you create, and what do you hope fellow Simmers get from it?

icemunmun: I mainly create mods and functional build-buy custom objects geared towards cooking, crafting and gardening. Like a large percentage of Simmers, I am very much into crafting-cooking-grow-your-own-food gameplay and all my Sims live off the land. I try to add food and other content which takes inspiration from all over the world.

It is a lot of fun getting to know about different cultures from all over the world and I try to bring little slices and glimpses into the game by way of mods and custom foods. I create whatever I want to play with but I hope by putting it up for other simmers to download, I provide some inspiration and joy to them.

CatherineGamesYT: I’ve always had a passion for architecture and gaming, and in The Sims, I can let this passion bloom and experiment with all kinds of different designs. I create a lot of speed build videos to share my passion with anyone who shares the same interest. When building in game, I love to imagine myself walking inside the structure, walking along the corridor, the balcony, which is almost like meditation, that results in a soothing effect afterwards. So I hope through my videos, I can convey a similar soothing feeling that might bring a little warmth, a little positivity, that might brighten up one’s day.
