You may have seen #NHL13Cover trending on Twitter or tweeted by actor Charlie Sheen in support of Pekka Rinne, but what you may not know is that fans have voted nearly 26 million times to determine who will grace the cover of NHL 13. That’s a lot of votes, that’s for sure!
So what’s made the EA SPORTS NHL 13 Cover Vote, sponsored by BlackBerry, so popular? It’s the rivalries between teams and the amazing work done by fans, players and NHL teams in creating funny and interesting content that has been shared through social networks across the globe. Although we won’t be revealing the cover athlete for NHL 13 until later today during the 2012 NHL Awards (7pm ET, 4pm PT on NBC & CBC).
Let’s recap the TOP 10 Most Interesting Videos created for the first-ever EA SPORTS NHL Cover Vote Campaign:
#10: Johnny's Barber Shop - Islanders Mikael Grabner campaigns for John Tavares
Grabner was the unofficial (official?) hypeman for #JT91 and here he gets it done at Johnny’s Barber Shop
#9: Coyotes' Cover Vote Debate
Biznasty, Yandle, Doan and Aucoin discuss who their vote goes to for NHL 13 cover
#8: Get Strong for John - Islanders Mikael Grabner campaigns for John Tavares
If you voted often, you needed strong fingers and Islanders fans had strong fingers, pushing #JT91 deep into the cover vote. This workout montage from Grabner shows YOU how to ‘Get Strong for John’.
#7: I Voted for Geno: Pittsburgh Penguins coaches
Strong values plus he loves puppies? That’s what made Malkin such a tough competitor in the EA SPORTS NHL Cover Vote.
#6: Vote Anze Kopitar for EA SPORTS NHL 13 Cover Campaign Video
Kopitar may not have the NHL 13 cover, but he has a Stanley Cup to his name. Maybe if he used the forehand deke a little more, he could have had both.
#5: Claude Giroux - From the First Shift...
If this video didn’t get you pumped to vote for Giroux, nothing would have. From the first shift…to the final showdown, Giroux came to compete!
#4: Vote Hartnell for EA SPORTS NHL®13 Cover Campaign Video - YouTube
Hartnell considers himself a stand-up citizen, or at least he tries to be #Hartnelldown
#3: When You Don't Vote for #71 - Penguins' "Vote for Geno" campaign
Many many fans did not want a tattoo of a dolphin on their face, so they voted for Geno. It was the safe bet, but he just couldn’t overcome Giroux.
#2: Pekka Rinne - The Most Interesting Goalie in the League
In high school, Pekka Rinne was voted ‘Most Likely to Appear on a Video Game’ cover, will it come to pass?
#1: Vote Hiller for EA SPORTS NHL®13 Cover Campaign Video - YouTube
This video was the video that started it all and definitely deserves the number one spot. An inspiration to all the other players and teams who created videos after it, Hiller’s team pulled out all the stops in this one and even added a cameo from George Parros.
