EA’s COO and soon-to-be head of EA’s Competitive Gaming Division to be honored by the ESA.

Tonight, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) will honor EA COO Peter Moore as the Nite to Unite 2016 Champion Honoree, an award spotlighting gaming leaders with a charitable history.

Held annually in San Francisco, Nite to Unite is the video game industry’s yearly philanthropic gala. “To be recognized and honored when there are so many other great, deserving members of the industry is very special to me,” he says.

Over the past 17 years, Moore has served on the ESA board of directors with both Sega and EA, and he’s also helped raise money for various charities, serving as EA’s executive sponsor for breast cancer awareness and helping to lead the drive for EA’s Humble Bundle.

More recently, Moore joined the advisory board for a group called SpecialEffect, dedicated to providing creative solutions for disabled gamers.

“We’re so lucky to work in this industry,” he says. “With that sense of good fortune comes a sense of needing to give back.”

Moore has been involved with some of the biggest moments of gaming history, including the launch of the first online console, the SEGA Dreamcast, as well as the Xbox 360.

Later this year, Moore will transition to a new role here at EA, serving as the lead for EA’s Competitive Gaming Division. It’s a new challenge and a logical progression for Moore.

“Gaming has always been competitive, whether it’s you versus your friend on the couch or you versus the guys down the street,” he says. “These past few years have been phenomenal in making competitive gaming now truly a sport. I couldn’t be more excited.”

“As you go through your career, you think about all those moments where you took on something new, whether you took on a new job, you moved your family cross country, you went to a new industry,” he says.

After a career full of charity and industry high points, Moore is ready to use what he’s learned to tackle the next challenge in his career. “You’re always learning,” he says. “Life teaches you lessons every single day.”

And as he looks forward, he knows competitive gaming is the next frontier.

“I think in the next five years,” he says, “you’ll see competitive gaming championships on par with major sporting events. We are already seeing full arenas for the finals of some of the top games in this space. I don’t see any signs of that phenomenon slowing down.”

Congrats to Peter on winning the Nite to Unite 2016 Champion Honoree award!
